No hangovers from the champaign for Pittsburgh as they go 1 up on the Reds and stay 2 back of the Cards.

Pirate rookie pitcher Cole continues to impress. 6 IP 2 R 7 H 1 BB 6 K for his 10th win in a short season. He also goes 1-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

Shark tank finishes it up with 3 different pitchers. 3 IP 0 R 3 H 2 BB 6 K. Good to Justin Wilson throwing with velocity.

Bucco bats pound out their 8 R on 12 H and draw 4 free passes. They also go 5-13 with RISP. The only down side was 11 Ks. That needs cleaned up before this weekend vs Cincy.

Bucs lead the season series 12-6 and go for the series sweep as they send out Liriano vs Arrieta.

After 159 games, it's now down to the final 3 games @ Cincy to determine where Tuesday's night wildcard game will be played.

Bucs lead by 1 game over the Reds. Bucs win 2 of 3, then we play in Pittsburgh with Liriano on the hill for the Bucs.

Reds take 2 of 3 we are tied and the Reds own the tie breaker with the best head to head record so we play in Cincy.

Pirates send out Burnett to face Bailey in game 1. (The same matchup as last Saturday's game) Burnett was lights out in that game with an awesome hook and Bailey lasted 5 2/3 for his first loss in nearly 2 months.

Bucs are 3-4 this year vs the Reds in the Queen City.

Lots of Pirate fans making the trip down river for this one.

Wildcard game tonight at PNC Park.

Liriano takes the hill for the Bucs vs Cueto.

Liriano is 8-1, 1.47 ERA at home but Cueto is 8-2, 1.90 ERA vs Pittsburgh at PNC Park.

Has all the makings of a pitchers duel.

Even though the Bucs just swept the Reds, that means little in a 1 and done series. A lucky break here or there can easily decide this game. Winner moves on to St Louis.

Buccos need to bring the offense and claim the nerves of playing in their first post season in a generation. The city is amped. A fast start by either team could go a long way tonight.

Yes it does.

After sitting thru seasons like 2010 with 105 losses, both in the stands and on the couch in front of the tv or watch the promising starts to seasons like 2011 and 2012 only to see them end in disappointment with losing records, this is sweet.

Had my black shirt on because when Cutch says "wear black", we wear black. Just like the largest crowd in PNC Park history did last night.

NLDS Game 1 Pittsburgh @ St Louis. Burnett vs Wainwright.

Bucs won the season series 10-9 but the Cards went 5-1 vs the Buccos in the last 6 games in St Louis.

Wainwright is a legit NL Cy Young candidate who won 5-0 the last time he pitched vs the Pirates in St Louis.

Pittsburgh hitters need to be selective as they won't get many good pitches to hit from Wainwright and the power arms in the Cardinal bullpen. They also need to cut down on strikeouts and put the ball in play to pressure a good defensive club. Get runners on base and then produce WISP.

Cards are the best organization in MLB from top to bottom. 10 times they've made the playoffs in the last 14 years.

They also were a MLB best with hitting WISP. Don't hit a lot of homers but they just single and double you to death. Their hitters are very good at hitting the outside pitch the other way, which is where the Pirate pitchers make their living.

Burnett brings playoff experience for the Bucs and has done well his last few outings.

Pirates have a 3 game win streak and are 7-3 in their last 10.

Cards have a 6 game win streak and are 8-2 in their last 10.

Buccos looking for a split of the first 2 games before taking the fight back to the 'Burgh.

Burnett just didn't have any good stuff. Cardinal batters were taking pitches. 4 walks I think and 1 hit batsman.

Wainwright was nearly as good as advertised as the Buccos could only manage 1 run on Alvarez's solo shot.

Need to regroup for game 2. Cole takes the hill for the Bucs vs Lynn.

Alvarez with a 2 run Bucco blast and Marte with the solo shot. 7 runs on 10 hits and 3-9 WISP. Sweet.
