Cardinal batters had a very hard time figuring him out.

If the Bucs win game 3, look for the Cards to possibly comeback with Wainwright in game 4 as I don't think they have named a starter yet for game 4. We have Morton slated for game 4.

Liriano was solid; 6 IP 2 R 3 H 2 BB 5 Ks.

Shark tank gave up their first earned run of the series but get the win with 3 IP 1 R 2 H 1 BB 0 K.

Pirate batters continue to deliver clutch hits and Alvarez, Byrd and Martin have 11 of the 13 RBIs in the series for the Buccos. Pittsburgh offense was a very respectable 3-8 WISP.

Pirates send Morton to the hill to face Wacha tomorrow on Buctober 7th for a chance to win the series.

Cards 2 Bucs 1 game 4

Series tied 2-2 and going back to St Louis.

Wacha was perfect for 7 1/3 innings. Alvarez got the first hit, a homer, that electricfied the crowd, Martin got a 4 pitch walk and Wacha was done. I thought for sure we had turned the tide but it wasn't meant to be.

Morton for the Bucs was also outstanding. All told, Pirate pitchers went 9 IP 2 R 3 H. You can't get much better than that.

Great pitching duel between 2 great pitching staffs.

I felt that for us to win the series it would go to 5 games and so it is.

Rookie Cole gets the start for the Buccos vs Cardinal ace Wainwright in game 5. I have to say that with Burnett's struggles in St Louis it is the right call.

Cards 6 Bucs 1

Wainwright tosses a complete game but he had to work at it as the Bucco offense it into 3 DPs including 1 in the 8th that was a blown call. Still, Wainwright is a great pitcher and a candidate for the NL Cy Young award.

Cole, at just the age of 23, does a good job. 1 mistake pitch but he still gave us what we needed, a chance. 5 IP 2 R 3 H 1 BB 5 Ks.

Alvarez had a monster series. Late season pickups Moneau and Byrd delivered as well. Cutch had a disappointing game 5 but still had a good overall series.

The season ends and how it ends is disappointing but it was a joy to watch. We ended the year 12-12 vs the Cards. Not to bad vs the best organization in the ML.

Liriano wins the NL Comeback player of the year award. He is the first player to win it in both the NL and AL.

McCutchen, Marte and Russell just miss out on gold gloves.

Rodriguez has no damage to his elbow and his option is picked backup for next season.

Pittsburgh's farm system is now rated as one of MLB best as it has depth in all departments and it has been built via the draft.

Future is looking brighter than it has for many years.

2014 schedule is out and the Buccos open at home on April 2nd vs the Cubs for 2 and the Cards for 3 before hitting the road as the first month is all NL Central games except the last 3 @ Baltimore. Schedule also includes a home mid-September 3 game series vs the World Series champion Red Sox but the season ends again on the road this time in Atlanta for 4 and Cincy for 3.

Clint Hurdle named NL manager of the year.

He received 25 first place votes and 5 second place votes. He was the only manager in either league to be named on all 30 ballots. Runaway winner over 2nd place manager Don Mattingly.

Andrew McCutchen named NL MVP of the year.

He received 28 first place votes, 1 2nd and 1 3rd place out of the 30 allowed votes. Molina received the other 2 first place votes.

Cutch was the clear choice and runaway winner of the MVP by both the players association and the Baseball Writers of America. Talk about sweeping a double header. 8)

The bar has been set for next year for overall team success.

The spoils of a successful season are to be enjoyed.
