ARRRGGHH! A terrible week for me Buccos.

Reds pitching was outstanding. So where the Braves.

Looks like we might have to trade some pitching for some hitting if we want to keep up with the Cards and Reds.

Pirate pitching has been outstanding but they will wear done without run support.

Our pitching ranks in the top 5 of MLB in every catagory. ERA 3rd at 3.29/ Saves 1st with 24/ BAA tied for 1st (with Cards and Reds) .225/ Bullpen has been the best in the business so far.

The offense is well, offensive. Rank in the bottom 5 in average .235/ hits 467/ runs 220/ strikeouts 493. BA with runners in scoring position is awful.

Changes need to be made.

Alvarez, while leading team in HR and RBI is batting only .199. He won't break .235 for the season. Whiffs too much and fielding is average at best for a MLB 3rd baseman but has a strong arm.

Barmes at SS is an above average fielder but will struggle to hit above .235 Mercer can hit but is suspect in his fielding.

People we traded for last year, Sanchez, Snyder etc won't cut the mustard for me.

My guess is that we have to trade pitching for hitting and right now we are a pitching rich organization.

10 games above .500 and only 3.5 games back of the first place Cards and 1 game back of the 2nd place Reds. It appears that the NL Central is this year's premire divison and it looks to only get stronger as the season grows.

Need to take 2 of 3 from the Cubs this weekend at Wrigley to right the ship.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Bucs 2 Cubs 0

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucs get just enough hits to beat the struggling Cubbies at Wrigley.

Pirates are 2-5 in their last 7 games and have only scored 13 runs. They are hitting just .169 during that 7 game span and are dead last in MLB with a .182 average in June.

It doesn't look to improve today as Burnett (3-6 3.22) faces Samardzija (3-6 2.96) who also is 1-1 allowing only 2 R on 6 H vs the Buccos this year. Burnett has been a hard luck loser as the Bucs have dropped 5 of their last 6 when he pitches and have only scored 7 runs for him in those 6 starts. His 2.67 runs support average in the 4th worst in the NL.

Once again, Pirate pitching will be called on to carry the load as the Bucco bats are still MIA on this road trip and season.

Bucs 6 Cubs 2

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucco bats come through with timely hitting to support Burnett's 8 1/3 innings pitched to at least win the series.

Pirates go for the sweep on Sunday.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Bucs 8 Giants 2

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucco fans get a glimpse of the future and they see the future is now as 2011 #1 pick Gerrit Cole makes his MLB debut and its a good one. 6.1 innings, 2 R 7 H 2 K and 0 BB on 81 pitches, 59 were strikes and of the 27 batters faced, 19 of them saw a first pitch strike.

He struck out the first batter he faced on 3 pitches and drove in 2 runs when he got his first hit in his first at bat.

Pirate bats seemed energized by all this as they pound out 8 R on 12 H.

Pittsburgh sends out Liriano (4-2 1.75) to face Zito (4-4 4.06) in game 2.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

The pitching is there. Now we need hitters to be considered a serious threat to the Cards and Reds.

Bucs 12 Giants 8

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Hot Bucco bats pound out 12 R on 18 H. A season high.

The first 4 hitters in the Pirate lineup were a combined 13-19. We only had 5 extra base hits, 3 doubles and 2 solo homeruns but were an outstanding 8-17 with runners in scoring position as we played small ball and just went station to station with all the hits bunched together.

Off night for the Pirate pitching staff but it was nice to see them not have to carry the load for once.

Charlie (Ground Chuck) Morton takes the hill tonight in his first start since having Tommy John surgery 1 year ago today and the Bucs look for the series sweep.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

I am not sure there is really any serious threats to the Cards this year lol

To this point in the season, the Cards are the best in MLB and it would appear that the Reds and Pirates are playing for 2nd place.

However, even with the Cards winning almost every night, the Reds are 2.5 back and the Pirates 3.0 back.

Seperation should happen in head-to-head meetings of these 3 teams. As of right now, these 3 teams are the best in the NL and the Reds and Pirates would be divisional leaders in every other division except the AL East.

Key early season matchup starts Monday as the Bucs invade the Queen City for a 4 game set.

But first we have to deal with the Giants and Dodgers.

This time last year the Bucs were 34-31 and 4 games back of the Reds in second place.

This year we are 39-26 and 3.5 games back of the Cards in 3rd place.

The NL Central is a tough place to be this year as all 3 teams are over .600

Bucs 3 Dodgers 0

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

The offense gets just enough timely hits, after dropping a stinking turd last night, to support a great pitching performance by Locke, 7 innings, 0 R 2 H 5 K and 1 BB. 75 pitches in 7 innings, that is very efficient. Lowers his ERA to 2.18.

Pirates will send Cumpton to the hill to make his MLB debut Saturday, the second time this week we have had to do so because of the injuries to our starting pitchers. Hope Cumpton can repeat what Cole did on Tuesday and we get the run support to back him.

Bucs now lead MLB with a 24-12 home record.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Bucs 6 Dodgers 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Gerrit Cole gets his 2nd win of his MLB carreer in just his 2nd start.

Bucco bats blast 2 HRs including a rare shot with runners on.

Bullpen does a fine job closing the door on the Dodgers as the Bucs win the series and end the home stand 4-2.

Pirates sail down the mighty Ohio to face the Redlegs in a 4 game set in the Queen City.

The Bucs have several injuries, especially to their starting pitchers.

Hoping for nothing less than a split vs Cincy.

The Reds are 2.5 back of the Cards and the Bucs are just 1/2 back of the Reds.

LETS GO BUCS!!!
