Re: Pirates 2013
Walker should have charged the mound tonight. No need for that crap! I would love to see Chapman's ugly butt in the batters box and have a pitched buzzed by his head and we'll see what he thinks then....But that will never happen....

Re: Pirates 2013
Reds 4 Bucs 1
ARRGGHH! A bitter defeat it was. Redlegs play longball with 4 solo shots and the Bucco offense fails to show.
Dusty has his pitchers throw at the batters. The umps will give a warning to both managers prior to Tuesdays's game so the Pirates won't be able to retaliate.
Morton takes the hill to face Latos who is unbeaten vs the Pirates.

Bucs 5 Reds 3
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
El Toro knocks in all 5 Bucco runs as the Pirates split the 4 game series in the Queen City.
Bucs could have easily won 3 of 4 if they had some timely hitting with runners in scoring position.
We set sail for the west coast for a 3 game weekend set vs the Angels before sailing north for a 2 gamer in the Emerald City.
Sails are full with wind, the hold is stocked with rum and fresh arms have been called up to shore up the bullpen as we head to the Pacific rim.

We have a lot of stolen booty on board as we head west as well...Last nights game was a heartbreaker, but all's well that ends well. What's your opinion on Mercer starting over Barmes? To me, it hurts our bench and our D with Mercer starting.

It does, but Barmes isn't producing at the plate so I guess it is a wash.Black Panther wrote:We have a lot of stolen booty on board as we head west as well...Last nights game was a heartbreaker, but all's well that ends well. What's your opinion on Mercer starting over Barmes? They are giving Mercer the chance to win the position at the big league level because they have no other option in the minors. Barmes's contract is up after this season and they won't resign him. I think he knows that. Also, the Bucs won't release him because they would have to eat the balance of his contract.
Mercer is better suited to play 2nd but Walker is a fixture there.
Bucs need bats. Period. At least batters that will make outs with contact and not strikeouts. Too many runners left in scoring position vs Cincy. We could have won 3 of 4 and maybe swept the series if some of our outs were made during contact.
We swing at too many bad pitches. We need to start going the other way with the ball. Cutch especially. Alvarez and Jones would greatly benefit from doing so.
We are a pitching rich organization. Teams in the pennet race will come looking for arms to trade for bats. We can afford to trade a few arms for bats but not many and they need to be proven bats, not A or AA prospects.
We had the chance to deal LHP Zarugski to the Yankees prior to his callup. He was doing well in AAA ball. Yanks wanted him. I guess they didn't offer much so we called him up to showcase him to the Yanks but it blew up in our face and he has been released.
We have drafted well in terms of pitching and traded well too. Hitting is a different story. Guys like Larouche etc haven't panned out. In my opinion you can put Gaby Sanchez and Travis Snyder in that group too. If you want bats, then you have to give up something to get something or be prepared to sign a high dollar free agent but you might get a Josh Hamilton. I giess Nolan Ryan and the Rangers front office are looking like execs of the year now.
If we had some hitters that make outs via contact and put pressure on the defense by putting the ball into play we would not be in 3rd place but 1st place. Our pitching has been that good to date.
Not complaining but Grilli shouldn't have blown that save vs the Reds but it wasn't his fault. He had been perfect to that point but you need a cushion when you come into the game, not a 1 run lead everytime like he usually faces.
We need to win 2 of 3 vs the Angels and split with Seattle. Winning 3 of those 5 would be a huge plus for this road trip.
Look for the rumor mill via trades to start heating up as teams come looking to the Pirates for pitchers. Hope Huntington is up to the task and gets us some value for this year and the future.

Re: Pirates 2013
Why is Sanchez being called up? Is there a injury to Martin or McKenry that don't know about?
Re: Pirates 2013
None that I'm aware of. From what I hear it is to add another bat to face lefties during this stretch of road games vs AL teams.Black Panther wrote:Why is Sanchez being called up? Is there a injury to Martin or McKenry that don't know about?
Bucs 5 Angels 2
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Pirates ride the "Cole train" as Gerritt Cole makes his first ever road start in his home town and powers his way thru the hot hitting Angels lineup as the Pirates move into second place 3 games back of the Cards as both the Cards and Reds lose.
Alvarez and Mercer provide the big bats as both hit homers.
Liriano takes the hill for the Buccos in game 2.

Bucs 6 Angels 1
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Bucco bats are booming!
Alvarez goes yard for the 3rd game in a row. McCutchen and Sanchez add a solo shot each as the Pirates continue to roll out the long nines vs Angels pitching.
Liriano goes 6 2/3 and the best bullpen (the shark tank) in MLB comes in to close the deal.
Pirates gain a game on the Cards and are now 2 games back and own the 2nd best record in the majors with a 45-30 record.
Last year at this time our record was 40-35.
Morton takes the hill vs Blanton as the Bucs go for the series sweep.

Pirates get their 2nd road series sweep in a row as they play the M's even against their ace Hernandez and get to their bullpen and score 2 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 9th.
Gomez comes off the DL to give the Bucs 5 strong innings and the shark tank does the rest as they slam the door shut to secure the sweep.
Bucs firmly in 2nd place with a 3 game lead over the Reds who dropped another to the A's.
Pirates are 18 games over .500 for the first time since 1992.
We set sail for the firmly confines of PNC Park on the North Shore with a treasure chest full of wins from this road trip (7-2) and what is sure to be a packed house for Friday nights game vs the Brewers as Gerritt Cole takes to the hill for the Buccos in search of his 4 straight win in as many starts.

Re: Pirates 2013
Heading into the weekend series vs the Brewers, the Pirates are tied for first place in the NL Central with the Cards who dropped their game vs the Astros.
