Re: 2010 REDS
Barring a major collapse, the Cincinnati Reds will win the NL Central........now with an 8 game lead and only 29 games left, they have all the signs of a division winning team.......clutch hitting (Votto and Bruce), some solid pitching (especially the bullpen), some outstanding infield defense (Rolen and Phillips), and Dusty Baker making solid decisions in the dugout.
Not only should the Reds win the division, they can win the National League which doesn't really have a dominant team........I still favor the Yankees or Rays to win it all, but remember 1990 when the underdog Reds beat the heavily favored Athletics with the Bash Brothers (Canseco and McGuire).
I'm an Indians fan, but I am glad to see the Reds doing well!!

Re: 2010 REDS
The Reds should keep Chapman in middle relief...He changes the game when he comes in and he is one of those pitchers that opposing teams are gonna groan and shake there heads when he comes out of the Bullpen. I still think he will make a great starter but we won't find that out until next season.ace63 wrote:Espn said today that the reds are 8 games up. Chapman threw a 104 mph fast ball yesterday. They still have to face the cards. I hope they do good against them. That would up the tempo for the reds . winning breeds winning. I think chapman is a good closer. Brought him up at the right time going down to the end of season. GO REDS

Re: 2010 REDS
I was thinking about that this morning. He is used to pitching a lot of innings. Castro likes his baseball old school. LOL I think maybe he plays a little winter ball, but not a lot. He has a realistic shot at earning the number 1 spot in the rotation right out of the gate next year. I'd like to see him throw 3 or 4 straight innings this year just to see how he handles it. He isbn't blowing his stuff by minor leaguers now. These are real Major league hitters. He needs to pitch when his back is against the wall and there is some pressure on him. I love the idea of easing him in, but it will be interesting to see how he handles facing guys twice in a game, or even facing the Cards 2 through 6 hitters.gahs4ever wrote:According to Jocketty on Monday, he said the plans are for Chapman to start beginning next year. I will be interested in seeing if he plays winter ball as many Latins do. He has a million dollar arm that needs to be taken care of; not abused IMO.

Thats very true!!gahs4ever wrote:RE: He isnt facing minor leaguers now.
I believe many, if not most will tell you that he will benefit from a more consistent strike zone in the majors than in the minors, and with as much movement as he has on his pitches, he needs umps who will stay with a pitch.
That slider is gonna be nasty! When it comes through the zone it just locks guys up, and when it misses the strike zone they try to swing out of there shoes at it!!
It reminds me of "Mr. Snappy" (The name of Randy Johnsons slider)
That funky delivery is different to, Thats gonna take a while for hitters to get used to seeing.

Re: 2010 REDS
I feel the Reds have wrapped up the central title. What would be good for their own confidence going to the post season is to put it on the Cards at least one game this series.

Broke my heart on a 3-2 pitch...........oh well we are still up 7 games. Going to be alot of fun to watch in September for a change.biggdowgg wrote:Holliday with a 3 run homer...
cards up 4 2
my son-in-law told my daughter that if the Reds and Phillies play each other in the playoffs, he would buy tickets for her and I to go to the games in Philadelphia. LETS GO REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: 2010 REDS
I think it was a 1-2 pitch immediately after Holliday was lucky to foul off two 1-2 pitches and stay alive for the fateful 1-2 pitch. Hanigan wanted a slider low and outside and Homer wanted to throw at fastball low and outside. He missed with the fastball in the middle of the plate!
Re: 2010 REDS
I knew when they walked , whats his name ,Intentionaly Holliday would hurt us...
oh well like old trojan said we are still up 7 games.
hope you get to go to Philly..that would be cool

Re: 2010 REDS
I'd think you want to go into the postseason with momentum....not hanging on for dear life. I think a lot of media people are underestimating the talent on the Reds roster but you have to play up to your potential when the spotlight is on. Since 1990, the Reds and the Braves have the same number of World Series championships! Toronto and Florida have more. Which program was the best consistently during that span? (Please spare me the Yankees-best team money can buy).
