NFL again considers altering OT rules

Post by dazed&confused »

From The Cleveland Plain Dealer

John Kuntz/The Plain DealerKicker
The NFL is at it again. It's time for another possible rules change. The league is considering a rule change that would allow both teams a more equal chance of getting the ball in the overtime format to decide playoff games.

The "modified sudden death" would eliminate the ability of one team to get the opening kickoff in overtime and then win the game with a field goal without the opposing offense ever getting the ball.

On SeattlePI.com:

The proposed system would give each offense a chance with the ball unless the first team scores a touchdown on its initial possession. In that scenario, the game would end immediately.

My thoughts are give each team the ball once. After that, you must win by six points. One field goal is not enough but if you score a TD or get two field goals, that will do it!

If they do accept this then here is your answer to your question. ace63. If the offense would throw an int or fumble the ball and the defense scores that will end the game. Because the offense would only get one chance at the ball.

I like it better than what they have but think they could have done a better job with the change.
