2011 Cincinnati Reds

Post by Orange and Brown »

I know it's 12 days til Christmas but the winter meetings are ending and Febuary is right around the corner. Our 2010 N.L. Central Champion REDS will be back to defend the Central. The Redstockings were quiet durring the Hot Stove meetings and look to remian quiet all the way up to spring trainning. They still need to move Coco, gotta find another SS, and I would love to see the Reds add at least 1 more quality reliever..........

It's gonna be another exciting year of Reds baseball folks! Turn on and strap in cause the Queen City Rollers are coming through!

This is our year! We are gonna take it all the way to the World Series!!! We got the reighning N.L. MVP and the Cuban Missle!
Look out Philli! :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245

Should Chapman be a starter or a reliever?

I want to see him as a starter.

That is a very good question. I am still hoping that EV and Homer can develop into the type of starters that I still think they can. Time is getting sort of short, especially for Homer, but I am still optimistic. I have been pretty happy with Johnny Cueto and fully expect him to get better and better. I feel that Leake and Wood are keepers, especially Wood. And Bronson has been pretty solid. But man, wouldnt it be nice to have a Chapman as your hammer at the TOR....I mean if he can reach this level...Alot of questions to be answered..but it sure beats the heck out of what was 5-10 years ago as far as a potential staff. Last summer was so great...Hope they do not trade ANY PITCHING.

Do NOT put Chapman in the rotation with Dusty as manager. Just ask Prior and Wood how well that went over with them and their elbows in Chicago!!!

Dusty has learned from his mistakes. He doesn't let his starters get to deep into the pitch count.

Not what any Red fan wanted to hear. He will be missed, and it will be hard to fill his spot in the pen.

There have been some talks about Brandon Webb. He is a local guy and said he has a team in the NL Central who he is in talk with. When healthy he is a great pitcher. Would love to see him come in and be a top of the rotation guy for the Reds.

Chapman will NEVER be in the rotation,,,he just doesn't have the stamina to be a starting guy. The need to work with him and get him ready for his natural position and that is closer.

Chapman was a starter on a 4 man rotation in Cuba. He has stamina and can pitch a ton of innings.

Chapman can be the top closer in the NL this year. If he is a starter he will end up like Strasburg... under the knife.

gahs4ever wrote:I believe the Reds biggest priorities over the winter and spring training is identifying the roles each one on this pitching rich team will have. Starter-long relief-set up-closer. I'm surprised Coco is still on the roster.

They have pretty much the same everyday lineup as last year with the exception of SS, and I believe Edwards is gone as well.

Some questions:

Which was the real Gomes; the one who got off to the great start or the one who finished?

The Reds had arguably the best OF in MLB last year when they were able to platoon early on and got the same production position for position by playing the best matchups every day. Are they as deep there this year?

Middle infield. I liked our aging SS last year (brain fart). Now he is gone. What combination of Janish, Valaika, Cairo, Phillips do you see playing everyday. IMO Janish has more range, but can he hit for the long haul?

Can Rolen get another year out of his 36 year old body at 3B?

Will Francisco make the team and what will his role be?

Both Reds catchers are over 30 with Hernandez turning 35 in May. Is the 22 year old Grandal ready to make the jump and being that young, do the Reds keep him only to let him rot on the bench if he doesnt beat out the veterans? As with so many young players, they have options remaining that the older ones dont.
These are great questions. :122245

As far as Gomes goes I think we will see him right in the middle I think he will have to be more consistant this year. LF is all his, so we will see if he can keep it.

I think SS will be a big ? going into spring Trainning..

I think Rolen will have another consistant year. I think he will stay around the .300 mark and continue to play great D in the field....

Coco...Who knows! LOL

I think we will see a young catcher (weather it be from within or they go out and find one) brought in this year.

Had the Reds got Webb they would have been willing to trade a starting pitcher for help at SS or LF. They now might try to sign Scott Posednik to platoon with Gomes in LF. I hope Janish can play everyday at SS but I doubt it. I thought Justin Upton made alot of sense for the Reds but maybe the asking price was too high. Having Upton, Stubbs and Bruce together for 4 or 5 years sounded nice. To repeat in the Central, pitching will need to carry the Reds. I think they will struggle to score runs against good pitching. GO REDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As they talked on the MLB Network, the human arm is not even built to throw a Baseball at all, let alone 105 mph. If you start him we won't hear anything of him in 5 years because he will be sitting somewhere in Cuba with a bummed arm. The rotation is fine as it is. I hope I am wrong and he's the next Randy Johnson, only better.
