Rodriguez wad the offensive coordinator and QB coach under Bowden at Tulane, and got Shawn King into the NFL.
When Tommy went to Clemson, Rich went with him and ran his offense and served as assistant head coach, until he left for WVU in 2000.

During his final 2 seasons with Bowden at Clemson his offenses were a balanced type of spread ran with Woddy Danzler. They averaged 405 yards per game and Danzler rushed for over 1,000 and threw for over 1,500 in both seasons.

BTW: still waiting for a list of teams that Marshalman thinks Marshall will beat this year.
He promises a winning season for the Herd this year, so he needs to name at least 7 teams.

games I think we will definitely win; Illinois State, Memphis, UAB, Rice

games I think we have a shot at winning; Southern Miss, Cincinnati, ECU, UCF, Houston, Tulsa

games that are a long shot of us winning; Wisconsin, WVU

in all honesty, I think we have the potential to go 7-5 since most of our tough games are at home (Cincy, UCF, Houston, Tulsa).

GAHS7462,

COntribute once in a while before making yourself look like you are unable to put a sentence together.

Marshall
Wins:UAB, Rice, UCF, Illinois State
Losses: WVU (obvious), Wisconsin (obvious), Cincinnatti---They had more team speed on defense than any team we played last season (including Miami), and they are almost all back. They return two QB's who can play and that is really there only question mark. Coach Kelly is building a nice program and they will put it on Marshall. Southern Miss---More of the same. Best running back in the conference and best secondary without question. Houston---Most are pointing to either them or Tulsa to be a BCS buster. Tulsa--- We couldn't defend them last year, what makes me think we are going to this season. Memphis---This team will be very good. They are loaded on the outside with huge wideouts and picked up a Florida WR a year ago and he is ready to go. They will beat us. ECU---Possibly the best Defense in the conference.

I think Marshall goes 4-8.

the Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, and Southern Miss games were all lost by 7 points or less. we have a better team this year than last, which is why I think we can pull wins in those games. also, we have Houston later in the season, and we tend to do well when the teams from down south come north when the weather is cold. (ex: ECU last year.)

either way, I'm just excited for Marshall Football.

Marshall has a new OC and DC this year. Totally different schemes now. They also have alot of talent. This is not the same team as last year. I'm betting-

They will beat: Illinois State, Memphis, UAB, Cinncinnati (at home and on ESPN)
Houston, ECU, UCF

Losses to: Wisconsin, WVU, Southern Miss, RICE, Tulsa- Maybe

Upset game: WVU- this could be the year. They have no Defense this year. Shut down Pat White, which they did last year, and Devine and you shut down the whole team.

Hey, if Appy can do it to Michigan, anything is possible!!

They hada new DC last season who did nothing. They have the same problems this year as they did the previous season: Secondary is below average, Dline is average aside from Albert, and the linebackers are probably worse this season.

Offense will be better in my opinon, if they can block someone. Doug got pushed around last year countless times and he was supposed to be "the man". I will say this that CJ Wood is going to be a very good player at Marshall.

I will put money on Marshall losing to UC. Any takers?

this year we have 2 new coordinators in Rick Minter, who I must say, has a pretty impressive resume coaching at Notre Dame, Cincinnati, South Carolina (under Lou Holtz), NC State, and Arkansas (also under Holtz). John Shannon coached at Maryland for a stint, and held similar positions at Toledo. I believe that the new additions to the coaching staff will help The Herd improve their record, as I can already tell a difference in this year's team and last year's team.

So your putting your faith in being a winning team this season on upseting WVU, and only "maybe losing" to Tulsa, a team that is being billed as a possible BCS buster.

You think that Marshall can upset WVU and beat UC, but you pick them to lose to Rice!!!

I think we can all see now, your knowledge of the college game. I won't bother with your opinions anymore.

I forgot more about Marshall than you will ever know. I'm basing it on the fact Rice is in Texas and Marshall is schizophrenic on the rode that far away. WVU big rival and UC at home. I'm sure they are better than Rice but that is the one I call the trap game for them this season. Marshall barely lost to Tulsa last year. You should stick to High School and win games there first.

I never mentioned I was there in the 2000's. I was there in the late 80's if you must know. I would also like to know if you are a fan of the Herd or not? Your post about who Marshall will beat or not included alot of "WE" and "US" in it as though you were talking as a fan?

I don't dislike Marshall, but I wouldn't call myself a fan either. I told you I coverd them as a professional for the past 3 years, so my opinions are based solely on what I have observed from being at practice almost 3 times a week, and also speaking with coaches from Marshall and from around the conference on a week-by-week basis.

I didn't play at Marshall so I have no real connection to them. I enjoy watching Marshall on occassion, but I am not really a "big fan". I have covered them for 3 years and done a lot of recruiting analysis as well.

Sounds like they are the only team you cover if your there 3 times a week?
I would say your an objective tweener and I'll go with that. You had to have seen the movie then?
You have to admit Minter as a DC is going to improve their De and Cann at QB is the real deal.
They are deep at RB and WR. Why don't you see them better than last year?

I have to somewhat agree with Peake on this topic. What is it that you have seen or heard that gives you optimism about the Herd's chances in 2008? Most of the same guys are back on both sides of the ball, and while there is something to be said about experienced players, the fact is that there are very few talented players on that roster. Sure, Cann could be a good QB someday, but he has never taken a snap before at this level. And please don't tell me you are buying into the "homer" coverage of our local papers and radio stations about how great everything is. If you are to go by their coverage of Marshall athletics, you would have thought Marshall won C-USA and went to a bowl. This sounds to me like just another case of Marshall fans "drinking the Kool-Aid."

Having said all that, I actually hope the Herd has a nice season to help save Snyder's job. Too much blame is falling on his shoes, but there are 3 factors to this program's demise: 1) lack of talent (Pruett knew when to leave, folks), 2) an AD who cares more about scheduling the big games so he can make money for his beloved volleyball and softball teams, AND 3) Marshall should have never left the MAC. I loved the regional rivalries that were developed in the last most recent MAC run.

Marshall and Illinois State are ties at 7 with 9:40 to go in the 2nd.... not looking too good.
At this level of play, they'll be flat out winning 3 games.
