Some say Joe Pa will leave???
Some say Joe Pa will leave???
Joe Pa cancelled his weekly news conference. NY Times is saying Penn St is working on Joe Pa's exit. A lot is going on with more and more coming out over the years. The pressure may force this to come now but at his age this could be really effecting his health.

Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
I thought he would leave soon anyways. However, the problems at PSU now should NOT be the reason he leaves.
He has acheived his goal ---- winning more games than any other coach in history. He also has more Bowl Victories than any coach in history.
JoePa turns 85 years old next month. How many 85 year olds do you know that could live this schedule day in and day out?
Nothing short of winning more national championships could possibly be left on his goal list.
Overall 409–136–3 (as of today)
Bowls 24–12–1
Championships
2 National (1982, 1986)
3 Big Ten (1994, 2005, 2008)

Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
Yes it should be the reason he leaves. He knew of a friend/ass coach who may have sexually assulted young children on school grounds. It doesn't matter. As Herm Edwards said on this it is the responsibility of any adult who sees this is to protect the child. Even if it means a fight that you lose you fight for the child.
Records are worthless when you go talk to a child that was abused and Joe Pa could have prevented this. Even Matt Millen who played for Joe Pa does not make excuses for Joe Pa.

I might be in the minority here, but Paterno never seen this happen. A graduate assistant reported it to Paterno. Paterno passed it on to his boss. Paterno didn't know it actually happened as he was not a witness. It could have been a false claim for all he knew at the time. Was it his responsibility to push to find the truth? He went through the proper channels by passing on this information to his superiors.
I think Paterno is just a scape goat for a PSU Admin that has longed to find a way to make him leave without having thousands of alumni angry at them.
I am not defending the guy who did this at all by any means! I just think Paterno will be the scape goat in this when its all said and done.

I like this quote from a poster on CNN.com -
Tom said, “I'm no Penn State fan by any means but this it total BS! The man did not witness this alleged incident. He was told by a graduate assistant of the incident. Remember the blade of justice is double edged and anyone who knows anything about employee law etc. knows that there are strict policies about how these things are to be handled. Knock this witch hunt off and focus on the perv who did the deed!â€

Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
PSU board is flying into town to make the vote and make it official. JoePa is fighting it, but you should expect him and several others to be removed from their positions by the end of the week.

Paterno should be fired. Period.I might be in the minority here, but Paterno never seen this happen. A graduate assistant reported it to Paterno. Paterno passed it on to his boss. Sandusky was an assistant there for THIRTY years. He is facing FORTY counts. But what is more damning to Paterno is that in a case such as this involving children, sure he went to the AD, but he didn't go to the police!? We don't know if he confronted Sandusky but all signs initally appoint to the fact he did not or at the very least "Did you do it? No? Ok then." and carried on business as normal. BLAME GOES UPWARDS. If you are the head coach and these man is a close friend and assistant for over thirty years and this went on ON CAMPUS. It's not as if this was limited to Sandusky's home or done in with the blinds closed... some of this happened at the Penn State facilities!!! Just because Paterno went to the AD we allow him to turn a blind eye to everything else and say that's acceptable? That will NEVER be acceptable in my book. As a human being I cannot fathom ever letting something like that slide. I would have been so outraged and I am almost speechless when I think about how people are still defending Paterno in this sense. Furthermore, after he "knew" about it he continued to let him around the facilities and so forth. He was seen at Penn State LAST WEEK. The whole thing is a mess and, in my opinion, they need to fire Paterno now and keep a bare minimum staff and get rid of everyone at season's end.
And as for you saying he is a scapegoat? No. If he was the scapegoat they'd have fired him and claimed it is all over. When the AD, VP both resign and now talking about Paterno... that comes nowhere near the definition of being a scape goat. That's called Penn State cleaning house of anyone involved during this time.
Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
Listen to Matt Millen who played and a big supporter of Penn St as well as on the Board for the program Sandusky was helping kids. Matt is upset just as many. He tries to put it into words as a former player but then has a hard time talking as a parent or grandparent. The Grad Asst is a former player and now on staff. So he should have been believable person. But should Joe Pa not pushed it more since he knew Sandusky was working with young kids? Witch hunt? Well the adults should have realized how important this was and that they could have helped save another child from being hurt. As well as not try to find the boy who the GA saw at Penn St. Sandusky is a perv but others where enabling him to continue.NYBuckeye96 wrote:I like this quote from a poster on CNN.com -

So who takes over if this happens? How can there be any viable candidates on staff that didnt know about these issues? They are all adults too, apparently nobody was pushing the issue.
Joe Pa seems to have washed his hands of it when he passed the ball along. While I dont agree with him not following up, I think given his tenure and success at Penn State, pushing him out anytime before the end of the season is completely wrong. Joe Pa coaching the final 3 games will do nothing to change the disturbing things that have already been done to these kids. He has a squeeky clean image up to this situation. I think this will be the beginning of the end for Joe Pa, but they owe it to him to let him finish this season.

Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
It seems like him leaving is all just speculation at this point. Only a few people really know what happened back then. If Joe Pa is forced by the end of the week, I'll be pretty shocked, since these are all still allegations at this point.
But if what's being said is true, then I am way beyond disgusted at what that man has done. I have no kids, and I still would like to see this man be punished severally. If I did have kids, then I think I'd love for those punishments to be more sever. And if they were my kids, I'd think I'd like to deliver the punishment myself.
I am sickened by what claims have said this man has done. From what Matt Millen, former Nittany Lion, said on ESPN today, Sandusky wasn't the person that you think would do this. He said he was one of the nicest people that he knew. He would do just about anything you asked him to. And now these allegations come out and the perception of him has been changed dramatically. I get enraged just thinking about this story.

Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
I haven't seen anyone that has read the Grand Jury test testimonies that Joe Pa has given, taking up for Joe or thinks he should continue out the rest of the season. I haven't read it, but you'd think if darn near 99% of the people that have are not taking up for the man, something in there is pretty darn bad. He should have told the cops first, then the AD
Re: Some say Joe Pa will leave???
On the radio this morning it was told that the mother of one of the first boys touched by this nutcase KNEW about it and Sandusky admitted to her that it happened and she chose not to go to the authorities. This was 12 years ago. I think Joe Pa needs to leave at the end of the year but not before.

AP: Joe Paterno to retire at season's end
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has decided to retire at end of the season, according to a source who spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. Paterno is expected to announce the decision later Wednesday, the source said.
Paterno, 84, has been the head coach of the Nittany Lions for 46 seasons. He has come under fire this week in the wake of a child sex abuse case involving his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and the alleged cover-up by school officials.
Paterno's 409 wins as coach of Penn State is the most in major college football history.

The PSU board of trustees should take that privilege away from him immediately!
When you protect a child molester, and continue to allow him to use the PSU facilities and football complex after you've been informed, you're guilty of enabling the crimes!
JoePa doesn't get the right to decide when to leave anymore!

JoePa's statement on retirement from PSU
November, 9, 2011
Nov 9 10:45AM ET
By Adam Rittenberg
Joe Paterno has issued a statement confirming his retirement from Penn State at the end of the season.
Here's the full statement from Paterno:
I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.
I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.
That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.
This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.
My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this university.
The most significant line: "I wish I had done more."
Paterno's comments about the Board of Trustees also are notable. The trustees likely will discuss whether they want Paterno to coach any more games, much less the final three regular-season games, a potential Big Ten championship game, and a bowl game. Having Paterno in front of the media so many times in light of what has happened probably isn't a good thing for Penn State.
Much more to come ...
