He and Huggins both like to down a few every now and then. WVU's two major sports are both in good hands now.

My question would be is there fire where there is smoke, or is Holgorsen's drinking habits not a concern? At a minimum he has already embarassed the university and he just rode into town. Stay tuned.FANOSPORTS wrote:He and Huggins both like to down a few every now and then. WVU's two major sports are both in good hands now.

Holgerson is an Iowa native, from a town of 8,000 people in a state where the majority of people have a blue collar work ethic and a lot of rural land similar to WV but with flatland instead of mountains. He'll be a good fit IMO.

Under the Ohio Teacher Code of Ethics could Holgerson be dismissed for what happened in Cross Lanes if it applied to him?
Did anyone outside of Luck truly believe that the situation with Stewart and Hogerson would turn out any other way in the end? Head Coaches and coaches that want to head coaches have egos!

Exactly, if the new guy turns out to have a problem it's their own fault. It seems like it is epidemic these days, in search of that almight "W" schools and coaches will do almost anything. I'll bet there are more than a few Ohio State fans that think "Old 9-3 Earle Bruce," doesn't look too bad these days. All Stewart did was win but it wasn't enough. He went from king of the world when he beat Oklahoma and let people forget about Rich-Fraud to dog meat when the flashy new model came alongCharge wrote:WVU did to Bill Stewart what Rich Rod did to them.

Holgorsen was not charged by the police with anything. I believe the NPD has said when they arrived on the scene he was sitting outside waiting on a taxi. Is that reason for dismissal?mtswngrvsg wrote:Under the Ohio Teacher Code of Ethics could Holgerson be dismissed for what happened in Cross Lanes if it applied to him?

Is it bad judgement on his part to be in a casino at 3AM? Absolutely.
I believe when asked about the HCIW, OL has said he might not have done it like this but hindsight is 20/20... or something like that.

I think that is like comparing apples to oranges.Yossarian wrote:Charge wrote:WVU did to Bill Stewart what Rich Rod did to them.

Actually Stewart led WVU to three consecutive 9-4 seasons. Some of those losses were bad(UConn and Syracuse this year, ECU and Colorado Stews first year). Add the Fiesta win over Oklahoma to give them/him a record of 28-12. That's not bad but expectations had risen during the RR years. 11 plus win seasons with Big East Championships and BCS bowls were/are expected.
Declining attendance and dwindling season ticket sales were also a factor. Big changes in offensive philosophy from the RR years (explosive top 10? rated offense compared to a conservative 65ish rated offense) to the Stewart years... and his refusal? to make changes.

And were is RR now. Money will not but national champs

RR is looking for a job. Not sure I understand the money buying NC comment though.
Re: Bill Stewart Out at WVU!
Depends on what is really important to people. Me personally , I would take old Earle Bruce's 9-3 with less drama. If refusal to make changes gets coaches fired Coach K would have been gone in year two. Time will tell if the new guy can stay in the bar or as Ron White would say, gets, "Thrown in Public."Raiderball wrote:I think that is like comparing apples to oranges.Yossarian wrote:Charge wrote:WVU did to Bill Stewart what Rich Rod did to them.

Re: Bill Stewart Out at WVU!
2 other wins that I think were bigger...1982 WVU opens the season @ #9 Oklahoma and falls behind early 17-0 only to come storming back and win the game 41-27. 1984, WVU ends 2 decades of frustration and defeats rival and #19 Penn State 17-14. Both of these teams faced superior opponets and won.
I hate to tell folks this, but WVU's win vs Oklahoma in Bill Stewart's first game was simply a case of the much better team, WVU, running over and around an inferior team. Yes, Bill held the ship together and I give him credit for that but I don't think it is WVU's biggest win.
Bill Stewart is a fine man and a fine asst coach. He was always the "good cop" in the "good cop vs bad cop" style of coaching. He was the one who the players could turn to when Rich Rod and the other asst coaches chewed them out and swore to take away their scholarships.
If Bill had been able to handle asst coaches, i.e. not throw them under the bus when things went wrong and actually being able to manage a game, he wouldn't have had Holgorsen picked to be his new O.C. and the next head coach in waiting. I am not surprised this situation blew up for AD Luck. But, he is right, WVU was not going to compete for a national title or even seriously contend for a Big East title with Stewart.
Holgorsen has never been a HC and Stewart's claim to fame was previously a HC at VMI. If Holgorsen has any success with installing his offense and winning, he will be plucked from WVU for another, higher profile program.
If anything, this season should be interesting for WVU if the offense can click.
