Manti Teo...wth??
Re: Manti Teo...wth??
This says a lot about the main stream media and ESPN's Gene W. How hard is to actually verify a story's truth before reporting it. I get a he said she said story but this is about someone's death. Not that hard to check out. Gene, Norte Dame and the main stream media look like a joke. Norte Dame once fired a coach for lying on an application but yet all they do is lie and try to cover things up. What a joke they have become. Jack the AD looked so uncomfortable knowing he had to lie. It wasn't hard to see not a very good at lying. Like Riley on ESPN said show us the cell phone bill. If he really talked to someone for 4 hours at a time it will be on the cell phone bill. Hell you could even get the number traced.
Re: Manti Teo...wth??
This story is so easy to poke holes in right now. Time for Manti to stand up and explain it all. He is even in Oprah's area. Reporters are more into getting the story out first than getting it right. Manti needs to talk and if it means some of what has been mentioned on here so be it. If he had nothing to do with it then take a polygraph.

I will quote myself from this morning at work (sorry, I hate to do this, but, I must). "I'm guessing the first song on his favorite playlist is "Imaginary Lover" by Atlantic Rhythm Section and the last song on his playlist is "It's Only Make Believe" by Conway Twitty. That's quite a wide array of music right there....... :122245

If he is saying he was duped and it was all an elborate hoax then why are we just hearing about it. Surely if you were deeply in love with someone, as he says he was, whether you ever met them or not if they die then you go to the funeral. How could he have not went to her funeral?? Seems like he would have found out then it was all a ruse.

On the scale of all the other bad apples in sports, this is really small potatoes. Even if he concocted the entire hoax, it didn't help him gain an edge on the field. His athletic abilities, good and/or bad, remain the same. He didn't rape, murder, peddle drugs, shoot up roids, or any of the other garbage young kids/thugs are known to do. He may have been complicit to a dumb, ignorant hoax but that's all he did, as far as we know. We are all guilty of overplaying a story or two in our lives, especially at his age. You know, the 50 lb whopper that got away.
I'm not condoning his actions. But, when you rack and stack his actions against others who have done stupid stuff, I believe this story is being overhyped a bit.

Re: Manti Teo...wth??
How many D1 football players have to go online to find a date or a girlfriend? Especially for a Heisman candidate?????
This story has more holes than Teo's tackling ability in the BCS Championship game.
He did this for publicity, nothing more. How low is this guy's self esteem????
Now his teammates are saying that "he went too far with it"? Really? Did he not think this would eventually come out in the world we live in with sports reporters turning over every rock to find a story??? He is nothing more than a low life dirtbag. It makes me even happier that ND got embarrassed in the NC game.

I agree with the fact that far worse could have been done or happened. However, this whole pile of crap story is why the country fell in love with the kid! It was the "perfect story" the kid from ND playing through the worse tragedy with great success and leading ND to the BCS title game. We had this story shoved down our throats all season long and this big Cinderella fairy tale was his bread and butter. Take away this story and Teo never steps foot in NYC for the heisman finale. He prob doesn't win near as many of the awards he did at the awards show in Orlando. Many voters flat out said they voted for him because of this story and what he played through and still done well. There were other LB out there who did just as much to help carry there teams. See Jarvis Jones and Ryan Shazier.
Basically this story manipulated fans and voters across the country and gave him a edge in attention and voting for major awards.
