Ohio State Basketball
Re: Ohio State Basketball
This OSU team had no consistent offensive firepower all year. It caught up to them like many people thought it would. Not sure of the recruiting class coming in...but if they arent getting a few freshman studs that will be one and done to the NBA I dont expect them to be competing for the conference title next year.

You're not very good at responding to most things are you? Again genius, UC is not a mid major so the Huskers playing them is a most dim-witted comparison on your part. Now if Nebraska played at Ball State or Bowling Green there'd be some merit in your post. I would say try again but under the circumstances my advice to you is stick with a sport you can grasp like woman's lacrosse or diving.NYBuckeye96 wrote:The Oaf wrote:Really you twit? What Big10/ACC/SEC/etc. caliber team played at a mid major college campus this year? You might have an argument if it happened regularly elsewhere. You don't think money or the facilities could have anything to do with it do you? How about the fact that a small school with a small, regional fan base couldn't hope to accommodate a large University with a national alumni base. Does Duke play at Elon? UK at Eastern Ky? Michigan St at Central Mich? Go stick your head back in the sand. Let's call your laughable post out for what it is. You're just butt hurt about your mid major dump getting handled by this "terrible and overrated" OSU team this year. :122246NYBuckeye96 wrote:This is exactly why Ohio State does not play in-state schools during the regular season anywhere else but at The Schott.
So no Big10/ACC/SEC/etc. school every plays at Cincinnati? Interesting! I guess that Nebraska-Cincinnati contract that was recently signed wasn't real!
Twit? Seriously? I don't even know how to respond to that!

Actually, you aren't good at reading between the lines ----- Ohio State will not play at UC. Period. And I say that as an OSU fan. OSU will only play UC in Columbus. Meanwhile, UC gets other teams on their home schedule from the bigger conferences, such as Nebraska. Last year, Alabama played at UC.

Alabama huh? Didn't Heidelberg have an open date? Any point you try and make using UC as an example further discredits anything you say.NYBuckeye96 wrote:Actually, you aren't good at reading between the lines ----- Ohio State will not play at UC. You just have your panties in a wad because tea baggers aren't getting what they want in politics these days.

Perfect response on your part. Can't debate the facts so instead you use a typical deflection tactic. You're as transparent as a jellyfish, and every bit as spineless.NYBuckeye96 wrote:You just have your panties in a wad because tea baggers aren't getting what they want in politics these days.

Re: Ohio State Basketball
No reason why OSU should not play UC and UD in a home and home series every few years. You can call Dayton a Mid-Major if you like but the Flyers have a rich tradition in basketball supported by the 12000 plus at every home game.

Fully agree with your first statement. However, it's not just "me" calling UD a mid major, it is the consensus. They have very little following outside SW Ohio, certainly not a national fan base and the schools in their conference would support that statement as well. The A-10 has very little national exposure. I live 65 miles from campus and UD is rarely, if ever, on tv here.

Re: Ohio State Basketball
Mid-Major or not, not many teams from the power conferences over the years have been willing to come to UD arena and play the Flyers. As far as following it looked like a good number of fans came to Buffalo. In a State where OSU will always be king and you have Cincinnati, Dayton and Xavier will always take a back seat but I think they both could hold their own against teams in the power conferences.

Re: Ohio State Basketball
Now that I am done ranting about the game. I will have to say that Craft and Smith have gave all Buckeye fans quite a bit of joy in watching over the years. They have made deep tournament runs over their careers. I sometimes like most Buckeye fans become spoiled over the success they have year in and out. Ohio State has had great success in the tournament the last few years. I guess you could call this year a down year and they still made the tournament. Kentucky is a successful team that didn't make the tournament last year. Yes Kentucky lost most of their players from the year before. Ohio State has lost some key players early and still stayed competitive. They lost their leading scorer and rebounder in Thomas last year. Some people were delusional to think they would be better without him. He was a guy you could go to get you a bucket when needed. He also opened up shots for Ross something he didn't have this year was open looks. Losing a player like Sullinger early was another big blow. I guess losing two of their top scorers they have done pretty well. I will miss watching Craft's hustle and hard nose play. As a Buckeye fan I am fortune to be able to watch competitive teams every year in both football and basketball. Not to many fans from other schools can say that! GO BUCKS!
Re: Ohio State Basketball
Dayton is no joke! Just ask the Cuse Dayton must have caught the lousy free throw disease from OSU ,but they hang on. Congrats Flyers for carrying the Ohio flag into the sweet 16 :aaaaa41

Re: Ohio State Basketball
Bottom line is OSU wasn't that good this year. In listening to former Buckeye Ronnie Stokes after the loss to Dayton, he was right on a number of things. No. 1, Craft and Smith never really took over a game all year even though they were the lone Seniors. Craft seemed hesitant all year to shoot the jumper and scored most of his points off of beatig his man to the basket for a layup. Stokes also went on to say that as good as Smith shot the ball last year from behind the arc he was equally as bad this year at shooting the three. He had one game where he found his stroke and then never found it again the rest of the season. Those two not scoring more really hurt them.
Also, someone mentioned OSU's big men and they were right, they were HORRIBLE!!!!!!! Amir Williams has to have the worst set of hands I have ever seen on a big man. How many times did Craft or Scott set him up for dunks and he let the ball go through his hands. Trey MacDonald was jsut a big body out there that couldn't stay out of foul trouble.
I also think Matta has lost his edge in recruting. His last big time get was Sullinger. Shannon Scott never panned out to be the player he was touted as. Sam Thompson is just a leaper and can't shoot a lick. Della Vega(SP) is a streak shooter who plays no defense. Ross stepped up his game and it was evident last year he was going to be the stud this year and he didn't dissapoint. He is NOT ready for the NBA though.
Now on to the player I just didn't see what Matta saw in him and that is Marc Loving. Sure he might have been Ohio's Mr. basketball last year but in talking to people who saw him play in HS, they said no way he deserved that and don't know why he got the award. He was not ready for big time college ball and I'm not sure he will be. Who knows, he could turn into a Evan Turner type player. Turner was the same way his Freshman year and then just exploded in his Sophomore and Junior season.
I would be surpised if the Buckeyes win 15-18 games next year. If Ross comes back, teams will just triple team him and make Scott, Thompson, Loving or Williams beat them and I don't see that happening. Haven't seen who they recruited in. Do they have any immediate impact players coming in? If not, long season coming next year being a OSU basketball follower
