What I'm taking away from the game is this. We can run the ball even if Beanie isn't playing I saw some bright spots, but I don't understand why Tres went away from it to be honest.(Reminded me of the LSU game). Another thing is that Boeckman is the poor man's Krenzel. At least Krenzel was smart with the ball and won the big games. The O-Line is Terrible and I mean TERRIBLE. If that problem isn't fixed then the Offense will have problems for the rest of the season. Also, to go along with that the D-Line didn't play that great either, you have to get pressure on the qb and that was not there. Two more things that can be taken away from this game is that Pryor needs to be used, I would say 50% of each game for the rest of the year. He proved that he's growing and maturing fast. And finally, although OSU lost the rest of the year remains. So, let's have a cheer for winning out and getting to a BCS game!

Good Post.....hoping for the Rose Bowl....not too shabby in my eyes.....I have been, and always will be a Buckeye fan.....do I see faults, yes indeed, one in the continued playtime of Todd Boeckman, a 24 year-old, six-year senior, who in my opinion has had more than enough time to prove himself and continues to come up lacking. I'm hoping after this last performance that Pryor will be stepped up and given substantial playtime. Do I think he's perfect and won't make mistakes, nope, but as a freshman he's made a great impression and the continued playtime can only improve his performance and my future enjoyment watching him grow and progress. Has the line let Boeckman open to limited time to execute, sure, but he fails to execute when he is covered, too, in fact looks like a deer in the headlights even when there are receivers open, seems indecisive with what to do, can't run with the ball, never has been able to, and I've seen him hit the ground in a fetal position as often as making a connection. Opposing teams have his number, key in on him, and they have control. I've never seen leadership qualities out of him, that feeling that the team is aligned when he's on the field. I have seen that out of Pryor, maybe it's hype, maybe it's true respect from his team mates, but when he hits the field, there's a different atmosphere. Is Boeckman our only weak link...*sigh* Boone.
I am admitting that in order for Big Ten teams to compete something has to be done, you can't continue to deny the obvious.
But....next week is another game, I'll be there in the Shoe rooting them on. Then I'll take a break and build up my Buckeye Budget and blow it all on the Michigan game....that is after taking in AC/DC the night before.....what a weekend. :12222 8)

OSU has become the '07 version of Michigan. Off. coordinator/O-line coach Bollman has no clue what he is doing. Last good O-line the buckeyes had was in '03-'04 and that was with Cooper's talent. They just didn't forget what was taught them before Bollman arrived. The defense is nothing more than smoke and mirrors, slow in front and too much zone by db's. Little Animal is nothing more than media marketing hype. It's easy to look good against JV competition (Big Ten, MAC, 1-AA) but embarrassing on a national stage. The vest must rid himself of these 2 coordinators or all OSU will EVER be is just another Bowl win by another conference.

Chris Spielman has called out Jim Tressel this morning on ESPN NEWS,
noting Tress just received a $1 million bump in his contract and that it's
'time for him to earn it'.

Playing in-state schools is nice, for sure for the payday visitors get at OSU.

Beating Michigan on a routine basis is nice, but winning the Big Ten doesn't
make a lot of waves outside of the Midwest.

Making it to two consecutive BCS title games is remarkable, but OSU has
been exposed twice as a poser for the championship, getting embarrassingly
out-prepared; outplayed; and outcoached.

Playing USC, with amazingly the same mindset that slow, plodding ball control
and field goals for touchdowns would be O.K. (see LSU; see Florida), just set
OSU up for another national humiliation. Why would recruits want to come to
a place that is the national whipping boy on the Big Game Stage?

Many don't care for Mark May of ESPN's College Gameday, and I am one of them.
But he too, called out Jim Tressel. You cannot play 'Tressel Ball' and expect to win
Big Games vs. Big Time competition.

Ohio State has some serious work to do, in the short term for the rest of their
2008 season (which it wouldn't be surprising to see OSU lose two or more games,
in part because of the possible recurring fear when games get away from them)
and long term for yet again, finding themselves in the position of re-tooling their
team for 'more speed, more quickness', as was the claim after Florida and LSU
scorched them in the BCS Championship games.

This is a post for all those calling for Todd's head...

Search up the Florida-Auburn game on October 14, 2006. I was, as was all other Gator fans, calling for Tebow after Leak played awful and cost them a victory. Had Florida beaten Auburn, they would have then been 7-0 I believe. Since Leak played horrible, everyone believe that the new kid on the block should take care of the team from then on out. Coach Meyer decided to stay with Leak, and look what happened. Leak led them to a National Championship.

Dont give up on Todd just yet. The Bucks could still go 11-1 and make the National Championship Game. A lot of crazy things can happen in a season. Keep your heads up

Do you guys think the Big Ten title is entitled to all Ohio Sate fans...Have you seen Penn State play this year??...and we go to Wisonsin...Ohio State needs to put every position up for grabs, yes that includes the LB's, the QB, the OL, and kicker...What happen to O H I O and Tressel being so clutch in big games???...Having vented they can still win some games and make a good bowl game.

Giving up on Boeckman because of the results of one game isn't the issue, try giving up after heading into season 2 with his mediocre play or how about giving up after the Buckeyes lose three of their last four games to BCS-conference teams, including losses to Illinois and LSU last season. The common denominator: poor play by quarterback Todd Boeckman. In those three losses, QB Todd Boeckman has been exposed by fast, athletic defenses. I appreciate comments of fans of other teams that give their input, but fully realize that those same fans would 100 percent want the Bucks to stick with a gameplan that clearly isn't working. Buckeye fans, (at least this one) , keep their heads up (tears don't fall so easily then ;-) ) but I'm also not naive enough or clueless enough to know that changes need to be made so this scenario doesn't repeat itself against teams like Penn State or Illinois.
Yea, that's the plan I would follow....a Gator fan (and many Michigan fans) saying we should stick with Boeckman......if that doesn't say it all, what will.

there's a difference between blowing one game and blowing 3. a stat just came across ESPN, in the past 3 big games OSU has played in (Illinios, LSU and USC) Boeck has thrown 2 TDs to 8 INTs...there's no way Pryor can be THAT bad, i dont care how inexperienced he is because Boeckman is horrible.

Courtesy of Sporting News:

In three games vs. BCS teams before the loss to USC, Boeckman was 35-of-62 (56 percent) for just 414 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions. It only got worse this time around.

By the end of the first half, Boeckman had an interception returned for a touchdown -- a bad, bad throw -- and a fumble on the negative side of the field. He finished 14-of-21 for 84 yards and two interceptions. He was also sacked four times.

Boeckman has 498 yards, two touchdowns and eight interceptions in the Buckeyes' last four games against BCS competition. Freshman Terrelle Pryor was 7-of-9 for 52 yards, and ran 11 times for 40 yards.

Though he plays well in most Big Ten games, Boeckman's inability to move in the pocket and questionable arm strength are highlighted by teams that can rush the passer and force quick decisions. And could lead to a change in starting quarterbacks.

Love these comments from fans on their forum:

It's not just Boeckman, it's this senior offensive line that just does not have the killer instinct. They're a bunch of wooses.

I don't understand why they didn't give Bauserman at least one snap the whole day, I am sure he couldn't have done as bad as Boeckman.

He (Bauserman) couldn't have done worse.....Bollman needs to face the reality that Boone, Rehring and Cordle are a lost cause. The o-line lays an egg everytime they play top competition. And we got the usual brilliance after the game from Boone: "Gee, I can't believe that we screwed up that much".......with those guys protecting a terrified statue (Boeckman) the outcome was not surprising.

This whole thing is plain and simple. You need to have Pryor as the starting quarterback, you need to fire Haecock, and Jim Bollman. That would take care of all the problems.

Yeah, Todd played awful in big games so far. Leak played bad his whole career in big games. After the Auburn game, Meyer stuck with him and they redeemed themselves.

Say what you want about starting Pryor, but its dumb...The kid hasnt proven he can throw, and he hasnt proven he can handle a full game under center.

And if you want to throw everything on Todd when it comes to big games, look at Tressel. Big games with his own players? Whats his record? 1-5? Tressel ball is done. It will not work against good teams anymore.

it's not that Todd has played terrible in big games, he's played terrible in just about every game minus the first 3 or so of last year. if it werent for the outrageous raw talent around him OSU might not break .500 last season or this one. Boeck is terrible, plain and simple. the reason Pryor hasnt proven any of that is because he hasnt been given the chance. i think he played like 3 drives against YSU and took 8 snaps against OU and played sparingly last night. i say give him a shot becuause everytime he's in something good happens. not to mention the fact that USC has been notorious for being ineffective against a mobile quarterback (remember Vince Young and Dennis Dixon).

i have to agree with you about Tress though. the man needs to step into the the modern era of college football where slow QBs dont fly. i'm not saying you need a really fast QB but QBs who cant get out of their own way and have to rely completely on their arm do not work today. also, he needs to learn how to STOP a mobile QB, we saw the OSU defense exposed against Illinios and Juice Williams is still there, not to mention that whole fiasco against OU could be partially credited to the fact that Boo Jackson could move.

One of the problems is the defensive coordinator cant game plan very well. He is killing us playing a zone. We got the athletes to play man to man while we blitz the crap out of the opposing team.

Tressel should be informed by the university higher-ups that these types of prime-time embarrasments need to cease. Ten wins per season mean nothing if you don't win the big ones. Pathetic doesn't even begin to sum it up.

If Ohio State plays in the National Championship game again, then I will be 100% for a playoff system the following years. I know it is earlier in the season and Ohio State has time to improve, but so does USC and the rest of the country. No excuses. Ohio State would be wasting their time in the national championship once again. I think Ohio State just needs speed, because thats what is beating them I think. LSU, Florida, and USC are known for their speed and Ohio State hasn't came close to winning any of those games. Everyone knows Ohio State has the talent and a national championship caliber team but they don't prove it in the bigger games. So coaching has a lot to do with it also. I think Ohio State will have some competition with Wisconsin, Penn State, and possibly Illinois since they have the home game this year. Also, Pryor looks promising in the future but you can't judge him by what you have seen because just like FT45 said, he hasn't taken enough snaps to even make a mistake.

after watching this game I think it pretty much confirms what the nation has been seeing. Our O-line is big and slow. Our RB's did nothing and our WR were locked down the whole game. Our defense is smoke and mirrors. I have never seen so many blown coverages on defense and they are senior dominate and experienced. No pass protection, again! Todd B, he looked lost and overwhelmed. TP is the look at the future. The Big-10 needs to come to grips with the fact that 3 yards and a cloud of dust is out. Fast, aggressive, lean, attacking defense is what we need and an O-line that can protect a QB. The O-line and D-line were exposed as a weakness for this team and they were all returning starters. Bucks will clean house in the Big-10 and go 11-1 but will not be ranked higher than 3rd in the BCS no matter what happens this year. They will not give them another shot. Look for a two loss team to go before them.

Lets not forget that the Buckeyes have won a National Championship recently. It has only been six years since then. Before 2002, Ohio States last championship was 1968. All is not lost.....

i dont think you have anything to worry about. a 2 loss SEC or Big12 team would get in over a 1 loss OSU team after the discrace of the past two years. and rightly so, tressell has shown more than a couple times that he cant win the big games, he's just too conservative IMO.
