Dubs,
Struggle? I seriously doubt it. They have 3 QB's that would probably start at 99% of other schools. I am sure the machine will continue rolling.
I really feel like anyone who thinks he is a jerk needs their head examined. Go back and watch the piece on 60 Minutes about him. He is a class act. He felt his guy isn't ready, sue him. I understand what Jim Tressel does in terms of telling his fst rounders to go, but James stayed and likely would have been a top 10 pick, now he is rated as the third best LB in the draft. Not everyone uses the same system as Tressel, and I like to think that PC knows what he is doing. He also made Reggie Bush a lot of money by him staying an additional year.
I disagree with the Linehart observation as well. He had a very good senior season, and only lost a couple of million by going 10th instead of 1st. He wanted to stay because he loved being a star in LA. He has failed in the NFL because of his work ethic and attitude---would have happend if he has come out the year before.
PC has many horses in waiting, he told the kid what he thought was best for him, he didn't listen, I would be upset as well. He wished him well and that is that. He didn't have any problems telling Taylor Mays to leave.
Southern California QB Sanchez to enter NFL draft
Re: Southern California QB Sanchez to enter NFL draft
I don't think this issue should have anything to do with "he won't get better" or "he would get better with another year."
This issue should be entirely a business decision. There is very little in the way of guaranteed money in the NFL. However, there is much to be had to a top 5 draft pick. If you are a top 5 pick, you have to go, especially if you are from a low-middle income family. Sanchez would === total fool to stay. The odds are against these guys becoming stars anyway, so get the money while it is there.
As for Leinhart, it has nothing to do with how he played in 2005. It has everything to do with the money he lost by coming back. It cost him approximately $20 million. That is a lot of money.
As for JL, he came back on his own. Plus, he was never a top 10 pick. Maybe to Mcshay or Kiper he was, but his draft evaluation came back mid-first to early second. Still, he was advised to leave.
As for Mays, his dad played in the NFL. He is rich. Money is not a big issue for him, not like the lineman who was in desperate need of money who was still advised to come back.
As for the charity work, that is one aspect of an individual's life. Charlie Weis is a charitable selfish A-hole. I have worked plenty of charitable and volunteer events, and I hate most people and am very selfish.
You have to consider that you yourself shot down my "easy to recruit to USC" argument based on the area surrounding the campus. I have been there and the only problem with that area is gang violence. That is one big reason not to go to USC, among many other great reasons to go. Imagine if the gang violence would disappear. You would have a recruiting utopia. Imagine the athletes growing up in that neighborhood who ruin their lives in gangs. It could be Miami-like in talent production. Or, he could just happen to care about kids not killing each other, but also cares most about his career and in his mind, his career = winning.

I've watched the 60 minutes piece, and you could do that same piece on 75% of the coaches out there.
You could also do a negative piece on Pete using facts and make him look like a horrible person and a cheat.
Sorry, I don't base my opinions of a coach solely on fluff pieces. If I did, I would think Charlie Weis was a
phenominal coach and person because he kept a promise to a kid who unfortunately died.

We can agree to disagree, but I still think that the USC Machine will roll on.

Oh, I think USC will roll on as well, but they won't roll so smoothly
at the QB position this next year.
at the QB position this next year.
Re: Southern California QB Sanchez to enter NFL draft
In my opinion , they have to have a QB that is instantly "ready to go" , otherwise, USC is going to have a disappointing season .
