Mike Adams had an injury last season, he has recovered nicely, and should
start this year.
Re: Post Spring Football...Your Thoughts
Michigan SHOULD be much better this season.
After atending the spring game, I thought the offense looked much better then a year ago at this time. Tate Forcier, much to the displeasure of OSU fans, should be a very good fit in this offense. He is not going to be a trailblazer like Pat White, but he will hurt you with his ability to throw on the run and when he brakes contain. He has deceptive speed (probably a 4.65 type of guy), and will makes plays with his feet and frustrate defenses.
The offensive line also looked much improved. They all looked like they had put on about 10 pounds of muscle. They say the first year under S&C Coach Mike Barwis you lose a lot of weight, and the next year he builds you back up the correct way. Anyways, they dominated the second and first team defensive lines (more on this later). I thought they looked much better suited running the spread and getting to the second level.
The wide receivers are still a work in progress. Matthews is still very solid and reminds me of a less talented Marquise Walker. He is not going to burn you with his speed, but will make tough catches and find ways to get open. Daryl Stonum has all of the potential in the world, but still does not seem to fully embrace the role as a true #1. He has speed and great jumping ability (caught a leaping TD in the spring game), but still is too inconsistent in his route running and drops too many easy ones. JR Hemmingway looks to be full speed after being injured last season. He reminds me of a slightly bigger and faster Jason Avant. He needs to stay healthy to add depth. Odoms looked like Odoms looks. He is a slot dot who can make you miss and get extra yards after the catch. He has good top end speed, but really lacks a true burst. I would say he is probably a 4.7 40 type of guy. When he gets going he can scoot, but it seems to take him a while. Roy Roundtree rally stepped up and looked great this spring. He caught two touchdowns in the spring game. He is a guy that reminds me a lot of Josh Davis that played at Marshall. He just does everything right. Bad news is he is 6’1, 175.
The Tight End’s will be key for Michigan this season. They have to create mismatches, and Tate has to get them the ball. Kevin Koger is a monster now. He is 6’4, 245, and very athletic. Coaches believe he will be a future first round pick. Martell Webb (6’5, 255) may have been the biggest surprise of the spring. He was one of the players rumored to be leaving, but had an outstanding spring in the weight room and on the field. He caught a screen in the spring game and ran over a defender then took it about 40 yards before anyone caught him. Brandon Moore (6’6, 250) made huge strides in the weight room---gained 20 pounds---but is behind two very good players. This is probably the most talented group on the Michigan team.
The RB’s are very deep and should fit this system well. Brandon Minor looked solid in the spring game, and Carlos Brown finally seems to be buying in. He had a 65 yard touchdown run in the spring game. He is a 4.4 40 type of player, but has struggled with injury. The big surprise of the spring was itty bitty back Vincent Smith. I mean he is little bitty (5’6, 75). He looked great as a change of pace back. He makes the first defender miss no matter what. His motor never stops, and he has decent speed. Coaches say if he were 5’9, he would have been the back everyone was talking about in Florida.
I am very confident in Tate’s ability to manage the team this year, and add Denard Robinson (10.31 100m, 7th fastest in the nation), and I think you will have a very difficult package to defend. Most thing Denard will likely be a slot dot, but with the lack of depth this season he will probably stay with the QB’s.
The defensive line was a big disappointment. Mike Martin will be a force, but other then him, I thought the rest really stunk. Big Will is still a project and it will take time for him to develop. He is used to just over powering people, and that is not working at this level. He is another player who lost about 30 pounds this spring, and is dealing with loss of strength. The Dline stunk! The DE’s looked very good on the other hand. Brandon Grahm based on talent alone is a top 5 player in the Big Ten, but he often seems to disappear for stretches. He reminds me a lot LaMarr Woodley. Woodley would do the same thing as a junior, but then he exploded as a senior. I am hoping the same for Grahm. Ryan Van Bergan also had a very productive spring and did some nice things. He is more of a pure pass rush type.
The LB core looked a tad bit better. Obi Ezeh is suffering from being a man out of position. He is probably a true defensive end, but is playing LB. Mouton was out because of shoulder surgery, but some of the younger guys did some good things. Fitzy (6’4. 240) looked pretty good, but still needs another year to reach full potential. Stevie Brown has been moved from S to Rover (thank GOD!!!!!!!), so he will contribute as well.
The secondary should be much improved. Boubacar Cissoko will be a future star. He has an attitude like Shawn Springs used to. He is going to press you and be physical all game. Donovan Warren looked solid, but is still struggling with a toe injury. JT Floyd did some good things and was solid. They will be relying on JT Turner to add depth to the secondary from day 1. Vlad Emilien had an outstanding spring and is #2 now on the depth chart at FS. He will likely be a starter come game 1. Mike Williams started at SS and did a solid job. He is a big safety at 6’1, 215.

I really hope that coach Tressel can get the Buckeyes back to the Championship. If they do get there this year he needs to keep control of the team.

Re: Post Spring Football...Your Thoughts
Great to hear from ya again peake, what do you think Michigan can put up this year in the wins and lose column. Lookin at the schedule it does play into Michigans favor with ND, Penn St., Purdue, and OSU at home. I think we could do something like maybe 7 or 8 wins and then maybe upset a team or two. Whats your thoughts?
Re: Post Spring Football...Your Thoughts
i bet money on it right now, that the bucks beat the wolverines again this year.
Re: Post Spring Football...Your Thoughts
I really do not want to make a prediction right now. I know that PSU should be very good again, but they struggle at Michigan. Purdue shouldn't be very good either, but you never know. As bad as I hate to say it, Notre Dame should be above average. With ND's schedule they could easily win 9 games. I don't know what to think of OSU yet. I think they will struggle at times, but aside from USC and maybe PSU, they will be favored in every other game.
I think the most likely upset would be over Penn State. They tend to struggle at Michigan, and it took them untill the 4th quarter to really get things going against them last season. They will be without their #1, 2, and 3 wideouts, and will be forced to run the ball more this season to be successful. I think this will be the game that Michigan will most likely look to upset someone they should not.
Thank you captain obvious with the OSU v. Michigan comment. It is easy to make a comment like that when you are coming off of a 10 win season and your rival was 3-9.
