Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
I've said tOSU will be, if not already doing so, pursuing Urban. He is not done coaching. Recruiting would be insane with him at the helm. Spielman, Vrabel and Fickell on the defensive staff would be impressive.

They already are pursuing him.
I'm not on board with it being a great idea long term, but it would be a great quick fix to get the program back on the rise.

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
This year will definitely separate the true fans from the fair weather followers. I for one am not going to stop supporting the Buckeyes and will watch them every game this year....I might be physically ill immediately after, but will endeavor the growing pains that we are and will be facing for quite some time.
I am optimistic that the Buckeyes will be able to find themselves and climb out of the debris that has resulted from all of the turmoil, scandals and violations. They showed signs of life and a passion for the game the first half against Nebraska, but lost the intensity the second half. We can attempt to blame Fickell for everything, but I for one am pulling for this guy to make it. Anyone that took this job was going into lonely and unrealistic expectations created by the most unappreciative fan base in America.
Heck, Tressel won many games during his tenure and was ridiculed for the way he was actually winning....enough said about the expectations!
As for the Illinois game. We have only lost to the Illini twice since 2002 and they are playing some decent football right now. If we can get the defense to make a few stands and possibly cause a few turnovers....we have a decent chance at winning this game. The offense has to give them some time off of the field and not string together three and outs in order to give them some breathers or they will not be able to stay with them the entire game.
If Miller is unable to go and Lord I hope he is.....please do not put Bauserman in the game. He is not what OSU needs to be building around. If we are going to lose, at least lose playing the players of the future and allow them to get some game time experience for next year. Bauserman is not the answer and I am not bashing the guy either....he just doesn't have it!
I hope that Fickell is not axed at the end of the year and they actually give this guy a fair shake to build a program instead of using him like a sacrificial lamb that has been lead to it's slaughter. He will get better as the year goes on and to be honest, do you really think any other coach would make such a difference under the circumstances!?
Sorry for the lengthy response....Go Buckeyes! O-H

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
Dubs, What's the extent of info on them pursuing Meyer or is that all that has really been mentioned.
As you said hoggy, I'd really like to see fickell do well and get the job being a true full blown buckeye. I understand he came into a mess but also realize there is plenty enough talent the win games and be 6-0 right now with some good decisions and taking some chances. It's is what it is though and it will make us stronger as a team as time goes on. If Luke can't find a rhythm and get everything in sync then I think other options should be explored. Like dubs mentioned early, where is his fire at on the sidelines like he has shown in past years as an assistant.
As mentioned before, regardless of how this season ends I'll always love the buckeyes and bleed scarlet and grey. I just bought a new home and finished painting our computer/office room grey and am fixing to unload bout 5 boxes full of Ohio state memorabilia all over those walls lol

As for direct p2p pursuit, that hasn't happened so much at OSU, though it has at PSU!
Here is a good article concerning Meyer and the current state of the OSU AD office.

The backdoor dealings, one of ours talking to one of his, but neither speaking on record or to the others superior, that stuff is in the works.

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
Illinois is over rated record and poll wise IMO at this point in the season. OSU will win this game. (Both the Illini and Wolverines are in the same boat with the hardest part of their schedules coming up in the next 4 weeks).

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
I think it's been forgotten a little on how important OSU is to Urban Meyer.
Here's an article written before the OSU/UF title game, with the details.

Besides his dad, Earl Bruce is the most influential man in his life!

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
Just out of curiousity, but why are we playing at Illinois this year? Didn't we play there last season? Unless I am mistaking, I believe it was the game we played poorly in and Pryor missed bout a full quarter in the 2nd half and Bauserman stunk it up until he returned. Plus I went to the Illinois game at home the year before last in 09.
Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
My guess is might be something to do with Nebraska coming in and new divisions this year, somebody told me that's why Penn State is coming here for the second year in a row,,I'm sure Dub will give us the answer soon

urban meyer's uncle lives here at the lake, he split a bunch of wood here at my house a few weeks ago. he said when he was at florida the only way he could opt out of his contract was to leave for ohio state. he did have a mild heart attack, but say's he has been in negotiations with ohio state for quite some time now.

Sounds like something is going on with Meyer and the buckeyes. Atleast there seems to be a mutual interest.

Re: Week 7: OSU @ ILLINOIS
I believe the Buckeyes can win this game, but I don't know which OSU team will show up.......the punchless team vs. Michigan State, or the team that couldn't stop Big Red in the second half.
I was very encouraged to see Braxton Miller play well, and I really believe if he didn't go down with that ankle, we could very well have won the Nebraska game.........hopefully he will stay healthy because, as of yesterday, Joe Bauserman was listed as his backup........I would like to see Kenny Guiton or Taylor Graham get moved up, because I have no confidence in Bauserman at all.........I can't remember seeing a more erratic passer at OSU than Bauserman.......he cannot move at all, and in today's football, a QB must have some mobility.
I would love to see the Buckeyes pay the Illini back for what they did to OSU on Nov.10, 2007 at the Horseshoe......it was replayed last night on BTN........pulling off a 28-21 upset vs. #1 Ohio State........this time Illinois is undefeated.........hopefully our Buckeyes can put 4 good quarters together and stun the Fighting Illini!!

Good luck with...
A. Getting Meyer
B. Keeping Meyer
C. Getting the Meyer you think you will be getting
I can tell you this...he wont win 2 out of 6 in Columbus.
