The Big Ten has the #1 (Iowa), #2 (Penn State), #4 (Nebraska), #5 (Ohio State), #13 (Minnesota), #14 (Wisconsin), #15 (Purdue), #20 (Illinois), #22 (Michigan), #25 (Rutgers), as well as Northwestern receiving votes for the top 25 rankings.

I believe the Buckeyes could finish anywhere between 1st and 5th at the conference championships. I do think they have a legit chance to win, as long as they are healthy, because they are a very good tournament team. They are a much better tournament team than they are a dual team.

Big Ten Championships start on tomorrow!

Finally, wrestling is back in action! After the first day of the Big Ten Championships, the Buckeyes sit in 3rd place out of 14 teams with 94 points, leading Penn State by half a point. Iowa is dominating with 121.5 points, while Nebraska is in second with 102.5 points.

So far, 8 Buckeyes have automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. 3 Buckeyes are in the finals on Sunday, while 4 more remain in contention for third place, and one more in contention for seventh place. Here are the results from day one:

Although they didn't claim the overall conference title, the Buckeyes did not disappoint in Piscataway. Overall, 8 Buckeyes punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships, including: Malik Heinselman (125lbs), Luke Pletcher (141lbs), Sammy Sasso (149lbs), Ethan Smith (165lbs), Kaleb Romero (174lbs), Rocky Jordan (184lbs), Kollin Moore (197lbs), and Gary Traub (285lbs).

Some other big highlights for the weekend include two conference champions! Luke Pletcher (141lbs) and Kollin Moore (197lbs) both won Big Ten Titles! Sammy Sasso (149lbs) also earned Big Ten runner-up honors!

OSU finished in 3rd place in the team standings with 112 points, just outscoring Penn State (4th) with 107 points. Iowa won the team title with 157.5 points, while Nebraska finished as runner-up with 132 points.

Next up, Ohio State will compete in the national championships March 19-21.

Kollin Moore, 3-time Big Ten Champion, and top rated 197lb wrestler in the USA, has been named as one of 8 Finalists for the 2020 Dan Hodge Trophy. The Dan Hodge Trophy is referred to as the wrestling equivalent of the Heisman Trophy for football, and is awarded to the best college wrestler. He not only went 27-0 this year, but also went 46-0 for his career, recording 36 pins while never allowing a takedown. If that isn't enough to win this award, then I just give up.

Kollin Moore finished runner-up for the Hodge Trophy. He was edged out by Spencer Lee of Iowa, who won the award. These two are the only ones that could have won the award. Pound-for-pound, the best two wrestlers in the nation.

A Buckeye did win a national award though, as Sammy Sasso was named the National Freshman of the Year!

Spencer Lee is an outstanding wrestler for Iowa, and was considered by a lot of people to be the favorite of the 8 wrestlers that were nominated for the award. Spencer Lee did receive 52 out of the 57 votes that were cast, with Kollin Moore getting 3 votes, while Ryan Deakin of Northwestern got 1 vote, and Shane Griffith of Stanford also getting 1 vote. A great year for Kollin Moore, besides going 27-0, really a shame that he won't have a chance to win the National Championship at 197lbs.

Well the Transfer Portal was good to the Buckeyes today as Tate Orndorff, a Heavyweight from Utah Valley has announced that he will be transferring to OSU for his Junior and Senior seasons. He's a 2 time NCAA qualifier while at Utah Valley, and would have been the #8 seeded heavyweight in the NCAA tournament this year had it not been cancelled. He had an 18-4 record this year, and even though Utah Valley is not in the Pac-12, there Wrestling Program competes in that conference, as do a lot of other smaller programs doing likewise in larger conferences.

The Buckeyes Wrestling Program just seems to be getting better each and every year. Even though the season was cut short this year, it was announced today that 4 Wrestlers were named 1st team All American. In each weight class there are 8 Wrestlers that are named 1st team All American, Kollin Moore, Luke Pletcher, Sammy Sasso, and Kaleb Romero each earned 1st team in there respective classes. Ethan Smith earned 2nd team in his class, while Rocky Jordan earned Hon.Mention in his class. Kollin Moore made All American 4 straight years while Luke Pletcher made it 3 straight. The Buckeyes have a very good recruiting class coming in next year, as they and Penn State and Iowa will probably be battling it out for the next few years in the Big Ten.

2021 Buckeye Commit Paddy Gallagher of Lakewood St. Edward has been honored with this years 2020 Mark Zimmer Outstanding Wrestler of the year award. He went 33-1 this past season at 160lbs, and is another in the long line of outstanding High School wrestlers to come out of Lakewood St. Edward. St. Edward year in and out is normally one of the best High School wrestling programs in the State.
