Ohio State Freshman Sammy Sasso ( 149lbs ) has been chosen as the Freshman of the year by Flo Wrestling. He finished the year with a 24-3 record, and would have been the #3 seed in the NCAA tournament had it been able to have been held. He finished the year with over a dozen wins over Top-25 Wrestlers, including a win over Spencer Lee of Penn State.

Just read where Former Ohio State wrestler Kevin Randleman has been voted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Kevin was a 2-time NCAA Div-1 Wrestling Champion in 1993-1993 while with the Buckeyes. Randleman who passed away in 2016, was also UFC Heavyweight Champion in 1999-2000.

Buckeye Kollin Moore became only the 6th wrestler ever for OSU to ever be awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor today for the year 2020. He finished the year 2019-2020 with a 27-0 record, and was favored to win the NCAA Championship before the season was curtailed by the Virus.

There are a handful of really outstanding wrestlers still on the board in the Class of 2021, and Ohio State just earned the commitment of one of the top lightweights in the country. Andre Gonzales , the 4th ranked 131 lb prospect in the country announced that he would wrestle his collegiate career for the Buckeyes. Gonzales choose Ohio State over Cornell, Wisconsin and Missouri. He won a California High School Championship at 106 lb last year for Poway High School, a major wrestling program in the San Diego Area.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association Division 1 Leadership Group published a letter Thursday calling for "a sport imposed delay" to the 2020-2021 competitive season until January 1st, 2021. Ohio State Head Coach Tom Ryan said as a group they thought that they would likely go with a Big Ten schedule, start in January, end in March, and then hopefully the following year go back to more of a normal college wresting season. The Leadership Group said it will continue to assess Covid-19 trends, data and models on a bi-weekly basis, "so that if the environment were to improve and safety restrictions were reduced, the 2020-2021 wresting season could be rest-ored to it's traditional format.

The Buckeye State has always been a hotbed of wrestling talent, and one of Ohio States key goals is keeping the best wrestlers at home, while attracting the best talent from anywhere in the country. So far the Class of 2022 is all homegrown talent, as Legacy Christian Academy (Xenia) junior Gavin Brown announced Wednesday his commitment to wrestle for Tom Ryan's Buckeyes. Brown won the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championship at 126 lb. as a freshman in 2019, and was considered the top-ranked 138 pounder heading into the cancelled 2020 tournament. Ohio State projects him as a 157 pounder in college, which has been a soft spot in the Buckeye lineup in recent years.
