Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
I think you are a year off. Last year was the 2008 National Title Game. The year before was the 2007, where they were supposed to roll UF. CHOKE!
Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
You are right and I have a thought on that one also. If Teddy Ginn didnt get hurt on the first play off the game the Buckeyes win easy. with him out they didnt have a outside threat other than Gman and so they could put 8 in the box and shut us down.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
So UM got another player out of Ohio from this last class Patrick Omameh, whom OSU did offer. It was speculated after Omameh verbaled to Michigan OSU came in to try and persuade him to go to OSU. Now it looks like that did happen since the offer was extended.
Who is using snake oil now? LOL. Not the ultimate Gentlemen Tress.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
First of all, the OSU reporters who were at JT's press conference have continued to say that JT's comments in context were saying that no one is a gentleman in the recruiting game. He has a self-deprecating sense of humor. The reporters took this stance despite the fact that the OSU fans wanted it to be a shot at RR.
Second of all, the offer to Omameh is a myth. He was absolutely not offered. This has been said by Nevadabuck (said "this is not a guess."), and was confirmed by an administrator at his high school. Guys claim offers that they don't have all the time.
A better example is the fact that OSU is recruiting Melvin Fellows who is committed to Illinois. However, he reached out to OSU to let them know that he was only a soft verbal.
Also, OSU is expected to keep recruiting JT Turner, although it is unlikely anything can sway him.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
1st of all when a kid says, " JT called last night and said if you want to come here and play we'd love to have you," to me that is saying we have a scholarship for you. I have to beleive that a kid that is as high character as Omameh, who is a 4.o type of kid wouldn't lie. He said JT was calling him the night before signing day.
You are correct sometimes kids will say they have an offer and they don't, but coaches and administrators only see offers in the form of a letter. If a written offer comes than the they will know, if not, unless the athlete comes running to them they don't.
Example, Henry Conway, OT, SHaker Heights. He reports a Marshall offer. I called, talked to his coach he says, no offer. I talk to him personaly, he confirms the offer. So your boy Nevada is not all knowing like you think he is, or may in this case there wasn't a written offer, but there very easily could have been a verbal offer.
I have absolulty no problem with recruiting untill signing day, but I think people out there are obviously jaded and don't completely under stand how this thing works.
MOre on Boren....Listen to this interview with Barwis, he talks about Kids are not going to like what I put them through and some will probably quite.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Or a kid from Columbus Ohio could easily say that JT said he'd love to have him....
Wonder what the motive could be? It's pretty easy to figure out, and doesn't take horrible character to make such a statement.
It doesn't matter though, but when Boren comes to OSU, then OSU must be winning without tactics that RR must need.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Ok yea you are right, a kid from Columbus who is going to UM would not look bad on JT.
scout.com
Over the past couple of weeks Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State have all expressed interest in Patrick.
Signing Day rumors swirled around that a late offer from Ohio State would be enough to persuade a second commitment switch to the local team, but the final letter of intent came to Michigan, where Omameh will continue his football career the next four years.
yeah it's like that.
You can have Boren. In the words of RR, I only talk about guys who play for Michigan!!!

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
A kid from Columbus (or Ohio) who does not get an offer from OSU when he thinks he deserves one may feel a slight shot to the ego. Take a walk around OU's campus in Athens and you will see several of these cases.
Example: I had a stint with a girl at OU who had previously dated one of OU's football players. He is from Ohio. He always told her how much he hated OSU and all who attended OU and liked OSU. He would rip OSU at every chance. I looked up his old Scout profile. In articles about him, he raved about OSU, their coaches, their team members, and their facilities. He talked about how hard he was working for the offer. It never came. Now he despises OSU, its coaches, its team members, and its fans. He also told her that he rejected an OSU offer. LOL. This stuff happens all the time. He didn't get a lot of things that he wanted but went to someone else.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Ok, that is a somewhat valid point. With that said take into account the kid has a UM scholarship, he shouldn't feel to slighted. Even when the biggest of OSU fans don't get a scholly offer, Elliot Mealer who has a block O on his arm, they don't lie and say I have a OSU offer.
Anyways this is pretty stupid. You are basing your opinion on I talked to a guy who hates OSU because he didn't get an offer. We are talking about kids who are part of a top class here. Plus I kind of do this for a living and we do a pretty good job of making sure both the player and school are reporting a scholly offer, to make sure our tails are covered when we break stories. Beleive what you want, but I seriously seriously doubt scout.com would break a story with information like this if it weren't accurate.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
They broke a story last season or the year before that WR Aaron Johnson from LA. had an offer, and it had quotes about him having a tough decision. OSU guys said he did not have an offer. He is now trying to walkon at OSU.
Sometimes, in verbal cases, kids can confuse compliments for scholarship offers. This isn't a big deal as those close to JT have claimed all along that he was not criticizing RR. Actually, most have said that the two of them have gotten along fairly well over the years.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Like I said this discussion is going nowhere. News papers are not in the recruiting business, so they are often inaccurate. Scout on the other hand, may report a offer that isn't accurate, but they won't write a story that includes such innacuracies.
There is no reason for Tress to call the night before if he didn't have an agenda, period.

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Direct quote from a knowledgaible soure.
"If OSU doesnt land a guy, they didnt recruit or offer him. In NB's world, OSU gets whoever they want."

Re: Justin Boren Quits UM Team
Like JT Turner, Josh Jenkins, Fred Davis, Shawn Crable, Kevin Koger, on and on and on and on and on....
Hmm..seems he made it clear OSU missed these guys and so many more.
You can't really be a knowledgeable source about such a subject. That's a comment purely based on opinion if I've ever seen one.
I'm just going to assume that the same sources NB had on Pryor, Wells, etc etc were the same ones who told him about the offer in question. He even knows OSU's recruiting board. I know who NB is, and trust me, this guy can pretty much chat with whoever he wants. He is not a reporter, and he is not some internet guy who has a friend in an athletic department. JT would return this guy's calls.
