Rumor that Donald Washington Suspended vs. LSU

Post by Orestes »

This has not been confirmed by Coach Tressel, but the word is that DW will not play in the championship game due to a team rules violation. If true, what an idiot.

Rumblings of failing the "pee test" as of now, but no official word. Eugene Clifford is also suspended but he played special teams only.

I guess JT will suspend players for important games. Some OSU posters are mad at him and are saying JT should just make DW run extra sprints.

It is being reported on the O-Zone now that they are suspended.

I agree he should run a sprint and if he could run all the way to New Orleans then he can play. The players who follow the rules should play the game those who don't can watch from home.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Top-ranked Ohio State will be without two cornerbacks -- one a starter and the other a top reserve -- who have been suspended for the Buckeyes' national championship game against LSU, according to media reports.

Donald Washington, a sophomore who has started every game this season for the Buckeyes (11-1), and backup Eugene Clifford were suspended for violating team rules, WCMH-TV and The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

Athletic director Gene Smith declined Thursday to confirm the suspensions and said there was ``work to be done'' before he could confirm them.

Washington, in particular, played a key role in an Ohio State defense ranked among the best in the nation. He had 34 tackles, tied for seventh-best on the team with second-team All-American lineman Vernon Gholston, and also had two tackles for minus yardage, one sack, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Washington, 21, started at nickel back a year ago and moved into the starting spot at field corner this spring. In a 48-3 win over Kent State on Oct. 13, the Indianapolis native returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown and recorded his first career sack.

With him out of the lineup, redshirt freshman Chimdi Chekwa will most likely move into the starting position.

Clifford was a prized recruit last spring after receiving all-state and several national honors during his days at Colerain High School.

He was listed as Malcolm Jenkins' backup at border corner on the Buckeyes' latest two-deep chart.

Clifford had played in four games, totaling eight tackles.

The Buckeyes' final workout before the holidays was on Wednesday. They will be off until returning on Dec. 26, then will practice for a week before flying to New Orleans on Jan. 2.

Well umm...OSU just released offically that Eugene Clifford has been suspended and there was no mention of Donald Washington. Hopefully DW is out of the woods on this one. Keep your fingers crossed.

Here is what the O-Zone said also....

Football: Reports concerning the suspension of two Ohio State players may have been pre-mature. Ohio State has released the following statement concerning this situation.

"Ohio State defensive back Eugene Clifford has been suspended from preparations for the Buckeyes’ BCS championship game with LSU in New Orleans Jan. 7.

"He was suspended by head coach Jim Tressel for a violation of team rules and will not play in the BCS championship game."

No other names have been mentioned

It was also stated that this was just a one game suspension for violation of team rules.

Eugene Clifford has had some past experiences with trouble, so I am assuming that he and DW committed the same act, but this was DW's first offense. Let's hope nothing more comes of this situation.

How do we even assume something like that unless you have some inside sources or something? This is how the whole thing about Washington getting suspended happened in the first place with people assuming and spreading rumors. Not saying that you are doing this I'm just saying people assume too much! ;-)

All I've heard recently is that it's only Clifford being suspended for the game.
