SSU Sweeps Rio

SSU SWEEPS RIO GRANDE

The Shawnee State Baseball Team swept a double-header with Rio Grande on Tuesday afternoon. Shawnee State improves to 8-14 overall and 3-1 in AMC action. Rio Grande falls to 13-12 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Shawnee State won the first game 3-2 in 14 innings. Jonathan Venters got the win as he pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 9 hits, 1 walk, and struck out a career-high 10 batters. Justin Craft pitched 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and had 6 strikeouts. Zac Alexander had 2 hits in the game with a double and scored 2 runs, and had 1 RBI in the game. Logan Crabtree had a double in the game for the Bears. [Box Score]

Shawnee State won the second game 3-2. In the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs and a runner on first base, Justin Craft hit a double to centerfield allowing Drew Howard to score the winning run. Craft was 4-for-4 in the game. Howard was 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI’s. [Box Score]

Shawnee State hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday, April 4. The game will be played at the VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe and begin at 1:00 p.m

It's impressive that they had any pitching left for that second game.
