whats everybody think? lets say within the last 25 years. what are the top ten programs over the last 25 years in your opinion.

in no particular order:


florida
ohio state
tennessee
florida state
penn state
lsu
boston college
miami (fl)
usc
nebraska

honorable mention:oklahoma,texas, texas a&m,auburn,

im sure i may have left off an obvious one. please, lets stay to topic. this could be fun.

My top 6 in recent years (highly ranked, championships, top-level recruiting, BCS Bowls):

LSU
OSU
Florida
USC
Oklahoma
Texas

No particular order btw....and did this decade since I haven't been alive for 25 years yet....

I'm going with all-time tradition, not any certain era.

The order of these means nothing:

Notre Dame
Michigan
USC
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Miami (Fl)
Alabama
Tennessee
Georgia/Penn State/Florida/Texas

According to the ESPN Encyclopedia of College Football, since 1936 Pittsburgh only has 2 consensus National Championships (1937,1976).
They'd definitely be in my Top 25, though...
They haven't been REALLY good since the early 80's and in the 90's they were terrible at times, but I'm expecting big things this year.
If 5 stars were the highest a program could be rated, I'd give them 4 probably.

Dont know about consenus or not but I do know they have nine golden football national championship throphies.I have seen the pictures of them.They may have a been tied at the top of the polls on the other seven.I will check into it.Yes,Dave has them heading back on the right track.I know all too well about the MISERABLE 90's the Pitt program endured.

6 recognized National Championships for Pitt. And also I only see 7 years where Pitt has won a National Championship. Also, they have never won their conference outright? I only found one Co-championship. Thats not too good.

Yes. In 1997 they shared the National Title with Nebraska. They also lost to BYU in what would have given them a share of the NC in 1985.

I'M NOYT SAYING EITHER OF THESE FEW PROGRAMS, COULD COMPETE CONSISTENTLY WITH THE LIKES OF OSU, LSU, FLA. SC, OR THE LIKES OF THESE POIWERHOUSES, BUT RESPECTIVE IN THEIR DIVISIONS AND CONFERENCES.

USC and Nebraska would have to top the list. Probably then go with Miami and Ohio State just because of what osu has done in the past 10 years. Tennessee has been pretty consistent over the last 20 years. Michigan, Florida, This is harder than I thought. Oklahoma, Penn State, UCLA

I'm pretty sure it's an unwritten rule that Alabama has to be included in everyone's Top 10....

Consensus National Championships since 1936: 7 ('61, '64, '65, '73, '78, '79, '92)

SEC Championships: 21 (16 outright)

Easily the most tradition of anyone in the SEC as far as football goes....
