Sad news for Penn State and all of college football. Wondering how much longer he woulda stayed at PSU if all this didn't happen. RIP Joe Pa.

Edited title to reflect Joe's passing.

For those following.
I changed the thread title because CBS sports, and OnState both reported Joe's passing. OnState has reported that players were emailed about his death.

Then a Paterno family spokesman denies the report and stated that Joe was still in serious condition.

So, out of respect I changed the thread back.

Frankly, I think he has passed. But until the family or hospital reports differently, we'll run with his "grave" condition.

Prior to the revelations from this past year, I would have been more mournful of Joe passing.
I can't pretend to ignore his inactions of the past 14 years, in order to glorify what were his outstanding accomplishments and career prior to 1998.
So, I'll simply say that for a long time he was a great representative of the game and a great humanitarian, and for that he should be remembered fondly.
I hope his family finds peace, and I hope he found forgiveness for his enabling of Jerry Sandusky.

Not to be rude but your daughter won't consider PSU now because Joe passed? That is a pretty silly reason.

He was already fired by the time he was diagnosed so the point is moot. His coaching days were over no matter if he had good health or not.Sad news none the less.I lost my father to a lung disease in Oct.2010 and I know all about being called to the hospital knowing your Father has not much time left to live.

One of the last of the old time great coaches now gone, not very many left maybe Osborne and Bowden only ones I can think of right off hand,Lost my brother to lung cancer at age 46,we only had 1 month with him after being diagnosed,it takes no prisoners

You know it might have been lung cancer, but I think it was a broken heart. A university he gave his life too fired him over the phone after all those decades.
