Toughest College Football Conference To Win; Best Conference

As for Toughest I mean the most balanced conference, as in the hardest to win.
For Best, the conference that has the best teams, and if anyone says SEC I already have a long rant about it.
What is everyones opinion?

Toughest to win, most balanced out I think it is a tie for the MAC and SEC, I'm not saying that either conference is the best team wise, but rather balanced out.
As best team conference, it is honestly hard to pick, but it surely isn't the SEC, I'll break out stats against the Big Ten, that every SEC homer loves to point out, but doesn't fully point it out. But due to my biased opinion on this, I won't answer.

Spielman is ok, but is a meathead. A meathead I love, but a meathead nonetheless.
As for Herbstriet, and I speak for OSU fans everywhere, I would like to cut his head off and poop down his neck.
There is a reason that he is not highly thought of in Columbus by the people who matter. He is a bad source on OSU, as he will do and say ANYTHING to make people think he is not an OSU homer.

The big 12 is crazy i wouldnt want to be in that conference
Texas
Texas AM
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Missouri
Nebraska(not last year)
and last year Kansas
Texas Tech
Kansas State
Colorado(should be competive soon)
Bowl Record 7yrs 27-28
The Pac10 has its years
bowl record(7yrs) 21-19
The big 10 should have one of its most competive years but sadly OSU is the big favorite. bowl Record(7rs) 21-28
SEC is tough Bowl Record(7rs) 32-20 Past 2 NC Champs
MAC Bowl (7yrs) 7-10
WAC Bowl Record (7yrs) 12-10
Big East Bowl Record (7yrs) 13-11
ACC Bowl Record (7yrs) 26-23
I cant pick because it really depends on the year the teams are having
but if we all look at it and go by most NC its all IVY league but of course that was the main place for football back then

Well, fightingtiger has spoken. End of debate. Nevermind the possibility of the answer being cyclical. 17-17 since 1998 isn't exactly domination over the Big 10. Lately, however, the top teams have been better after long lay-offs.
The SEC has the luxury of having parity. UT, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia have all had their years, and have made names for themselves. However, it isn't like all of these teams are peaking in the same years. With all of these teams having individual prestige, it makes the conference "sound" tougher.
In contrast, Ohio State and Michigan have basically been the only teams in the Big10 to do anything impressive on the national stage with PSU being down for a while. So, their opponents do not sound as "tough." However, since 1998, OSU's opponents in the Big10 have been 17-13 against SEC teams in bowl games where the teams are ranked evenly within their own conferences. There is no way around that.

Orestes, so you think the Big Ten is tougher than the SEC? Seriously?

I think it certain seasons they have been, including 2002. 1998 is another year it obviously was, and I'm sure in other years it has been as well. As recently as 2006, the Big10 went 2-1 against the SEC in bowl games, but was overshadowed by OSU totally laying an egg.
My argument is that the leagues run in cycles. It changes from year to year and we can only guess about 2008. For instance, the SEC East looks impressive this season, but the West, not so much. LSU should fall off a good bit. Alabama lost to a team worse than App. State last season. Arkansas loses a lot of talent. Auburn will be implementing a new system. I'm not impressed by what one should expect from that bunch. On the other side, Georgia should be good, but earned a lot of hype last season from upsetting a Florida team with no secondary and a wounded Tebow, and then from beating a hapless Hawaii team which was about like Washington. Florida should have a potent offense, but the defense has questions. South Carolina will be solid, but I see nothing overly special about that team.
For the Big10, I think Michigan will be down. MSU should be up from last year. PSU should be up from last year. Wisconsin should be equal or up next year. Illinois will probably fall off just a bit, but it will depend on the RB replacement. They will have nice talent. OSU should be way up from last year.
I have never said the Big10 is a better conference, but OSU IS playing teams that have been 17-13 against the SEC in Bowl Games since 1998. The conference as a whole is 17-17. That's not domination from either side.

Last 2 NC games?? Topic is best conference. If that is the case then look at UM absolutely man-handling UF last year. UF was ranked 12th and UM totally unranked, UM fumbles twice inside the 5 and still manages to win the game. That is after completely pushing UF around and showing the nation how good Tebow really was. So with that philosophy then heck, BigTen by far!! C'mon, both are good conferences and are power conferences. UM is something like 21 and 7 all time against the SEC and 8-3 in bowl games. Not a UM fan, just very glaring stats to deter the SEC claim to dominance. Orestes is absolutely right, there are ebs and flows in college fball.

You all can argue all you want ,but I think it goes in circles. Right now its been the SEC on top, a few years ago it was the PAC 10. They all have there runs for a few years..

SEC hands down. I think that individual prestige plays a role considering when you hear UF, Tenn, Aub, Bama, GA, LSU..you already are thinking that they are some of the greatest football programs in history. In the recent years though, depth is what makes the SEC so tough. Im not saying that a Big Ten team like OSU or Wisconsin can't beat any SEC team. At times, they would win. It is hard to be dominant in that conference every year like Ohio State dominates the Big Ten. If you're a team in the SEC, you can't overlook any team if you are playing an in conference game. Out of conference schedule sometimes may be fairly easy but as far as competing in the SEC year in and year out, it is by far the best conference, and probably the top conference depth-wise if you don't include tiny schools. After the SEC, I would have to debate between the Pac 10 and the ACC. Im an FSU fan of course and Im not trying to be biased but its obvious that the Big Ten isn't as great depth-wise against the conferences like the ACC and Pac 10. You know it too, especially if half the country votes Ohio State to be the Big Ten champs every year. Well, ever since Ohio State won the 02 title against Miami. Yes, I know last year was different and they were predicted to finish 3rd in the conference. The other 2 obvious teams were Wisconsin and Michigan. Northwestern, Minnesota, Iowa, and Purdue..at least not for a while, are ever going to be in that top 3. Purdue or Iowa is a toss up, but they always are ranked high in the beginning of the year and end up losing 6-7 games at the end of the season. Not that it means they are terrible, but the bottom half of the Big Ten, rarely competes with Michigan, Ohio State or Wisconsin. I also forgot to mention the Big 12, who also has a lot of depth. The fact is, we never know who is going to win the SEC, ACC, Big 12 or the Pac 10. They are so much deeper than the Big Ten and those conferences keep us in our seats and on alert. Big Ten is so boring that I could go a whole year without watching a game and probably have a 95% chance of telling you who finished in the top 3 spots. The only games last year that I watched in the Big Ten that were interesting..was watching App. State beat Michigan and Illinois beating Ohio State. Im not trying to be biased like I usually have been in the past. Although I dislike the Big Ten but if I were a true sports analyst I would say the same thing. Biased or unbiased.
