VMI beats Kentucky on opening night?? Wow, this just confrims what i have said for 2 years about Gillispie. He is a dud. This program is really reeling right now. I guess good things happen to good people. You ran a great man and great coach off in Tubby Smith and it really has come home to roost. WOW!

85inside I have to agree with you 100% on Tubby Smith. I got to meet Coach Smith a few years ago and he is one class act. I visited a UK Basketball Camp and watched how Coach Smith took care of those young men at the camp. He really impressed me.

I hope Billy stays for years to come.

Tubby had the best winning percentage at kantucky. So you kick him to the curb

i'm not a real big fan of numbers Tubbs winning percentage is some what mis leading. tubbs inherited a lot better program than Pitino did so his percentage is a little lower. check tubbs out when the SEC teams started coming back up. ;-)

when tubbs let Chris Lofton walk his downfall began.

He won a Championship with that so called program. No matter what you inherit, you still have to coach and get the best out of the team.
As far as Lofton goes, there is always a kid who gets away any coach will tell you that.

Keep Billy G. :122245

How many championships has the great Rick Pitino won on any level? He stunk it up in the NBA nad what has he done since winning one title at UK? He coaches now at a place where Denny Crum won multiple titles. He is the most overrated coach of all time. You UK fans ever get the Pitino stars out of your eyes and do the right thing, you may just bring a respectable program back to Lexington.
Sometimes you pay the price when you run off good coaches. By the way, make sure you hide your cheerleaders with gillispie around! This hire was much like Michigan's hiring of Rodriguez.
5 non conference home losses in just over a year! Ill give ya North Carolina. however, Sandiego? Gardner Webb? VMI? WOW!!!! Ky. should never lose to those programs, especially in RUPP. You guys have high school coaches in Kentucky that are better than Gillispie.

I didnt say Pitino was overrated. I said he was the most overrated of all time. When you ask people who the 5 best coaches of all time were, his name gets mentioned. What a friggin slap in the face to alot of great coaches. Pitino isnt even the best coach to ever coach at UK(Rupp). He isnt even the best coach to coach at UL(Crum). Then there is Smith, Coach K, a guy named Wooden, Bob Knight, Roy Williams. I would also argue that gary Williams at Maryland is as good as Pitino. One title just doesnt automatically get the title of one of the best.
Now, if he were running in an election as apublic speaker or a recruiter against any of these men, he would win hands down. he still has the whole state of UK land mesmorized. They guy left UK and now coaches the hated louisville Cards. The Pitino koolaid line is a very long one.
Question: What is 348 miles long ?

The Pitino koolaid line in kentucky.

you are right hammerdown. i apologize for the teeth remark. I will delete that. No way he is/was better than crum. Pitino won at kentucky. they have been winning for decades. Lousiville? If it werent for Crum, Pitino wouldnt be there now, finishing like 4th or 5th in the conference every year.

By the way, how many Big east titles has the all time great Rick pitino won at Louisville? Not national titles. im talking conference championships. Since Pitinoi took the Louisville job, Louisville's football program has won more conference titles than their basketball team.
So, Kentucky first tubby Smith, because all he did was win conference championships and their starry eyed faithful want to rehire a coach who cant even win a conference title at louisville. Louisville, a perenial powerhouse under Crum

Oh Pitinoi has already rewritten the record books. The program was used to winning championships and now they dont.

I am now interested in seeing what kind of season VMI has now. Will this game be the one that leads them to a great season or was this a fluke?

This is an upset of monumental proportions. "Tubby's Gophers?" youre kidding right? The great Pitino would never consider a job like Minnesota. What a friggin joke.
Conference USA titles? Oh my, next you will be bragging about beatting a Southern Conference team....oh thats right, you lost to them.
Denny 2 titles, Ricky 1....and that was a long long time ago. Good thing Gillispie isnt african american.

VMI is great offensively. Always average over 100 points a game. The thing is, good teams always find a way to stop them. Kentucky has a lot of work to do, just as they did last year. Billy G got them to understand what he wanted them to do last year, and they played very well in the conference. Give him some time.

And by the way, if you want Billy Donovan. Keep wanting. He isnt coming to Kentucky. He proved that before the BG hire.

I think we all need to quit boo hooing Kentucky will pull together and get us a decent season-winning record and a trip to the final 64..

I dont blame you on the racism thing. All Smith did was win conference championships.

45: Kentucky will put together a nice run when the get to that extremely weak conference of theirs. Other than Florida and tenneessee, its way weak! Their conference saved them last year.

If Donovan wanted to coach at Kentucky, he would have signed with Kentucky. That Magic deal didnt come until about a month later. Billy Donovan will never coach at Kentucky.
