I don't think we need anymore than an 8 team playoff.

Use the BCS rankings, incorporate the 6 BCS conference champions,
and add the top two non-champions in the BCS rankings.

I could also see a 12 team playoff, with the top 12 of the BCS getting in reguardless of conference.
Top 4 seeds get a Bye, and then play the winners of the first round in an 8 team tournament.

This one would look like this:

First Round Bye:
Alabama
Oklahoma
Texas
Florida

First Round Matchups
#5 USC vs. #12 Ball St
#6 Utah vs. #11 TCU
#7 Texas Tech vs. #10 Ohio State
# 8 Penn St. vs. #9 Boise St.

After the first round the winners of the games would be matched up as follows:
Bracket 1
Alabama vs (Penn St/Boise St winner)
Florida vs (USC/Ball St winner)

Bracket 2
Oklahoma vs (Texas Tech/OSU winner)
Texas vs (Utah/TCU winner)

This would only add three weeks of games.
Week one would be played at the home field of the higher seed
Week two would come during the week of Christmas
Week three would happen on the first Saturday after the Bowls.

These teams are already practicing during these weeks, they could scale back the season from
12 games back to 11, and this would amount to only adding 2 games to the season.

The University Presidents would argue length of season, but the 1-AA schools play 15 game seasons
counting their playoffs, and they have fractions of the funding that the big schools have.

This system also rewards the best teams, by giving them a week longer to prepare and one less game,
while getting any non-BCS team in the top 12 into the hunt for the title.

My playoff would be the champions of the 6 bcs conferences. and then 10 at large bids. Seeding would go by record. with 6 champs getting top 6 seeds. This would also give mid major teams a chance.

no more than 8 should be in.
2 mid majors would have made it this year that is enough

Check out how the NCAA Divison II does its football playoffs. D I could do the exact same thing and have tremendous success.

need to keep the bowl games and use them in the playoffs as well.
can't cut all of the bowl teams out of post season.
all we need is a plus 1 game after the bowls.

College football is setting financial records each and every year. Business is a tough thing and when you have a product that sells like college football, why screw around with it?

College basketball has a playoff.

Here is College Basketball's regular season success....

college basketball attendance---down 8%

college basketball ratings---down 19%

college basketball licensing--down 51%

that is a "failing" business model......and they have a nice all-inclusive playoff system....

the day people start boycotting college football because of their lack of a playoff system is the day the people running it will sit up and listen....right now..... business is thriving...

Controversy is riveting......

I am more and more leaning towards liking how it is now. I used to be all about a playoff...

Sit back and think most of the controversy is during the regular season.

Usually it plays itself out in the end.... (except for the Auburn year)

I know the BCS likes too pit 2 teams that have a good fan base, but in my opinion the 2 teams in the top 15 that are undefeated, Boise stat and utah should be playing for the national title.

It has come down to the money that can be made, plain and simple, what a slap in the face to some great athletes.

If memory serves me correct didn't the Broncos dismantle the Sooners last year?

I totally agree Bait, but not so many years ago they left it up to the sportswriters to decide who would play in the big game.

this new system was supposed to make it fair and unbiased in selecting who played for the title, but as everyone can see it has come down to the almighty dollar, and the old saying is that money is the root of all evil.

this way is no better than the old 1 so why not go back to letting the sportwriters, decide.
