Bowl Game Locations

Post by BOO YAH »

I know it is fair weather and more of a tourist thing for big money, but why can't bowl games be played in the north?

I'm not trying to suggest moving the bowl games from their historic sites, I just think seeing Florida, USC, Texas and some of the other southern state teams playing in the north late in the year could be interesting.

I just wonder how gators would handle snow.

you have a very valid point, not just the gators. how would texas fare, at say penn state against the buckeyes, or at michigan, or say usc playing penn state at their home. if it's all about money , play in some of the biggest venues in the country.

ohio state
michigan
penn state
tennessee
wisconsin

they would say no way, florida, miami, alabama, lsu, texas , texas tech. cannot play in that cold weather, thats not fair. but the stadiums would be full.

some perfect examples this year.
penn state -usc-the rose bowl
memphis/south florida-st. petersburg
southern miss/troy-new orleans
hawaii/notre dame-hawaii
fla. atlantic/central michigan-detroit
wvu/n. carolina-charlotte, nc
wisconsin/fsu-orlando
miami/cal-san fran.
no. ill. /lou. tech-shreveport, lou.
western michigan/rice-houston
houston/air force-ft. worth texas
boston college/vanderbilt- nashville
lsu/ga.tech-atlanta
ole miss/texas tech-dallas
florida/oklahoma-miami

you kinda seeing a theme here.

What a great response assassin. If you hardly ever win a bowl game then you find other reasons to make excuses. It's not like Ohio State, Michigan and whoever else plays in cold weather..its not like they play in -30 degree weather like the Green Bay packers. Yes, I agree that cold weather plays a major factor in football games, but it really shouldn't make a big difference. In warm weather both teams have the same advantage. It also turns out to be a better game for both teams. Also, I'm sure the players don't mind playing in warm weather. I understand that it gets tiring seeing your team playing so far away, but teams from the south actually do come north to play sometimes. Florida State and Maryland for example played in November, and Florida State actually played better lol. Anyhow, the warm weather is not even a big deal.

heck, who would not love the opportunity around here. to go see say penn state, and usc. at say the horseshoe. packed house i gar-on -tee. you see assassin, you really don't understand why these teams are at a disadvantage. a player from say wisconsin has way thicker blood than a player from say florida. it's a fact. so you take a guy, thats used to playing in wisconsin, and take him to balmy miami. his body is not used to that, he can't breath as well, and he will tire more easily. take ohio state last year. have you ever been to new orleans, i have. in may , you can't hardly breath it's so humid. so send an ohio state player there mid january, stick him in an 80 degree dome. then add 80,000 fans. it heats up immensly. you'll quickly see the northerners start to breath through their mouth's. it takes sometimes weeks to adjust to that. not arriving 2 days before a bowl game. i believe you have a south carolina helmet avatar. are they even in a bowl, anyway. think about a bowl game at osu. there's the pro football hall of fame a couple hours away. great restaurants. great clubs, and hotels. the zoo. nearly all the stuff you can do down south. whats wrong with a 6'8 345 pounder playing in columbus jan, 5th. from steamy atlanta. he likely would not play well. not used to the cold, breathing in frigid air. handling a ball with cold hands. but if they can play in the extreme south, why not some of the biggest venues in the extreme northeast . my pappy told me , whats good for the goose , is good for the gander. if you don't get it pm me. :-D YTB.

If it's nothing but an excuse, then why not have a southern team
come up north and play a game sometime between November and
the end of the bowls.

After all, it's just an excuse, there can't be any advantage.

well duh..... most teams are in conference play at that time therefore few southern teams travel north to play. exceptions would be fsu and usf traveling north to play confernce foes.

the nationwide/victoria secret snow bowl at ohio stadium.... think of the gifts players to give to their girl friends...
ohio state could host the game and invite anyone they want.

I think I would just be happy to be in a bowl game. I've posted this somewhere else I know, but take a look at Brett Favre. He is pretty well known for his performances in sub-freezing temperatures at Lambeau. Want to test how good a QB and his composure really is? Stick them in various venues with different conditions and see how they perform. After all, when they get to their goal of the NFL they play teams from all over from New England to Miami to Oakland.

Motor City- Detroit (although indoors)
Humanitarian- Boise
International- Toronto

3 Bowl games that are played in the North,

Problem is the teams playing in them no one cares about...

And plus you cant host a game in the Shoe or at PSU that wouldn't make sense.... You would have to play them in NFL stadiums most likely.... Although I would love to see the Kraft Cheese Bowl in Green Bay or the Gillette Bowl in Boston....

Chicago needs a bowl game as well...

then you all are agreeing with me. if ohio state played texas, at the big house or penn state stadium, i just might be able to be able to afford to go. but that will never happen, because the sec , and the bowl committees would not allow it. you may say ohio state would have a home field advantage at michigan, or penn state, for pete's sake. look at penn state. playing usc, in their home stadium. that is not a disadvantage. if anybody does not understand this, they simply are blind. and i'd love to get a chance to see how the all might trojans could fare, up north. early january. i bet they'd be a lot more normal.

Two of the three are in domes, so who weather doesn't matter there either.
The third is in Boise, between two teams that are just happy to
have the extra month of bowl practice, and the check that comes with the game.

As for last years National Title game not being considered a home game for
LSU, when it was 80 miles from the campus, and the first title game in New Orleans
since hurricane Katrina featuring the home state team...

What if this year the city of Dayton was leveled by a catagory 5 Tornado,
causing billions of dollars in damage, hundreds if not thousdands of lives,
and setting back the economic standing by a decade....

Then 2 1/2 years later, just as the economy and developement was starting to pick up
and the area was coming back to life, the Ohio State Buckeyes got to play
LSU for the National Title, and they held the game in Dayton.
Would you consider that a home advantage for the Buckeyes?

i always though usc played their home games in the coloseum in la... not the rose bowl in pasadena...

maybe the teams from up north should decline bowl invitations next year if they have to play southern teams in the south...   ;-) :aaaaa115
