Academic All Big Ten
Marcus Williams of Ironton and Aaron Pettrey of Raceland both made All Academic Big Ten. Marcus made it in Health Sciences and Aaron in Sports and Leisure Studies. Congrats to both of these athletes on their award. Ohio State topped the Academic Big Ten list with 80 members. To be eligible a player must be a letter winner in his or hers second academic year and carry at least a 3.0 GPA or better. A total of 682 athletes made the list.

That says a lot about our Buckeye team. Congrats to Marcus and Aaron.

The comparison is of athletes and not all students. It say tons about the student athletes at Ohio State. It says that Ohio State led the Big Ten in athletes that were All Academic. I always give credit where credit is due. Congrats to Marcus and Aaron on their awards. By the way, this is Marcus Williams second year to have made Big Ten All Academic quite an accomplishment. K C Christian would have made it also but he just hasn't got that letter yet. K C is another local student athlete that is a very bright young man. "1862"

peake, your theory makes sense for the average student. However, we still have Jim Harbaugh. We also still have Kinesiology.

To compare the academic standards of OSU to say that of North Western or Michigan shows a bit of flaw in the system. I am not saying that they are not highly intelligent athletes, just doesn't say what you are implying.
I alsways find it interesting that Michigan and North Western are the two top Academic Institutions in the Big Ten, but rarely do you see them place the most kids on the All-Academic Big Ten Team.

Thank you RRR and once again you are correct.
Outstanding bright young men of character playing on an outstanding team for an outstanding academic institution, something some know little about.

K.C. is a very bright young man. This past quarter K.C. took 20 hours of intense classes, making all A's and B's, practiced a difficult schedule with the Buckeyes, and supported a family. He has done the Hill and our local community proud. K.C. will be giving a motivational speech to the eighth graders at Rock Hill Middle School on Friday, January 9th. He has talked to students the last couple of years and does a great job, he has great speaking skills and the students hang on his every word. He speaks to them about goal setting and how he has overcome hurdles in his life and had doors open though his faith in God.
We're hoping the Buckeyes snag a win in Arizona and it is a season ending celebration, but whether a win is achieved or not, it will be a private celebration for K.C., a look at what our students may strive to achieve in their own life (whatever their path), and a rowdy roof-raising Buckeye coming home party.

Congrats to both of these young men! It isn't easy playing football, taking a full load of classes and doing both well.
Re: Academic All Big Ten
Law School doesn't enter this equation. One, it is graduate school. Those are ranked separately. Two, each individual graduate program is ranked separately as well. An example would be OSU's medical school. It is elite.
As for entrance standards between OSU and UM, for average students, UM is more difficult to gain admittance. As for football recruits, UM is not holding themselves to higher standards. There is a high school player who does NOT have an OSU offer and is in Michigan's current class. A friend of mine teaches at his school, and he told me that the kid can barely read. He didn't say it to laugh. He is a bleeding heart who cares for these kids and it upsets him.
So, for you and I, Michigan is the more elite academic institution. For football players, the degree on paper sounds better, but the intellectual quality of the athletes is not higher at Michigan (football and basketball). I am also willing to bet that they will drop significantly under RR. He brought in some dandies at WVU.
Also, the OSU Football average GPA is 3.0, and yes, they have still lost some quality players due to academics, so they are doing their own work. Under Cooper and Bruce, the average team GPA was never that high. On top of that, check the OSU players' majors that made Academic All-Big Ten. Most of them are in legit majors.

Re: Academic All Big Ten
Again I would like to congratulate Marcus Williams and Aaron Pettrey, two young men from the SEOPS area, on their accomplishments. Like I said before I give credit where credit is due and both these young men deserve these awards.
I talked with Marcus Williams yesterday and he told me he would pass up his last year of football in order to enroll into a school to further his education. He graduates this next quarter and he said that football might clash with his future studies. The Fiesta Bowl will be his last game. He said the team leaves Monday for Arizona. I told Marcus we would miss him out on that playing field. This is one young man that has his priorities straight. Best wishes to Marcus and thanks for being such a role model for the kids of this area.

Both Marcus and KC are at Ohio State because of their academic ability, the football was just icing on the cake. It says so much about these young men that they can maintain their academic goals but still are willing to put forth the extra effort to be a part of the Buckeye team. Kudos to Marcus and all the good luck in the world towards his future. He has made us all so proud. This photo will always be one of my favorites which shows Marcus in all his glory.
