Second half run propels Rio to road win at Alice Lloyd
Pippa Passes, KY---The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's basketball team, ranked No. 5 in the most recent NAIA Division II Top 25 Rating, snapped a two-game losing skid with a 96-90 win at Alice Lloyd College on Monday evening. A 20-8 run to start the second half spurred Rio Grande to the victory.
Rio Grande (12-3) placed four players in double figures, led by P.J. Rase (Wheelersburg, OH) with 22 points. Rase lit it up from three-point land, nailing 6-of-8 attempts for the game.
Senior guard Brett Beucler (Sardinia, OH) added 15 points while senior Brandon Ivery (Columbus, OH) delivered another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Doug Campbell (Sailsbury, NC) chipped in 10 points.
Senior point guard Aaron Drakeford (Columbus, OH) was on the verge of double figures, scoring nine points and senior center Will Norwell (Cincinnati, OH) eclipsed the 1,000- point mark for his career with seven points. He left the game in the second half with an injury, the seriousness is not yet known.
Rio trailed 40-39 at the half.
Rio will be back in action at Union College on Wednesday (December 31) at 2 p.m. Stretch Internet will have play-by-play coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m.
