Talking with a friend, we were thinking about why did Wells sit out of the Fourth? And why has Tressel been trying to lead him into the draft?
1. He was generally injured.
2. He is afraid of getting hurt again. Maybe felt something and did not want to push it.
3. Maybe Tressel feels he is injury prone and does not want him to further hurt his draft status and enter this year rather than take chance of getting hurt worse next year.
4. Wells wants to take care of his family and sees this year is his best chance to do so.
5. OR, Jamaal Berry wants to play and with Wells being there he may not see the oppurtunity and go to another school. So Tressel is pushing Wells out the door to bring in Berry.
What are your thoughts?

I think Beanie was just hurt, period.
Berry is not Beanie---they are not pushing him out the door---unless Tressel is that stupid to push out an All-American for a kid who there are no garuntee's on.

Beanie is great, when he plays. That's when he plays. This guy is made of glass. He reminds me of Ka Jana Carter from Penn-State. I really think Beanie is going to be a bust in the pros and will be lucky to play 5 years.

Re: Chris Wells future
he better get a good signing bonus becase his first contract will probally be his last.
if you can't last a season in college no way you can last in the n.f.l.

Re: Chris Wells future
I disagree. There was a certain RB from Oklahoma named Peterson, whom everyone said would have trouble in the NFL beacuse of his college injuries---riiiight.
He has everything---size, speed, ability to catch the ball---he is going to be good.
IMO---think Robert Smith.

Didn't Peterson show heart and play really injured in a bowl game right before turning pro?peake wrote:I disagree. There was a certain RB from Oklahoma named Peterson, whom everyone said would have trouble in the NFL beacuse of his college injuries---riiiight.

Re: Chris Wells future
Maybe more like Eddie George.
With Berry coming in, will he be redshirted or will he play?
With the depth at RB, I wonder what will happen. If Beanie comes back, Saine, Herron, Berry. What are your thoughts on this?

I, for one, actually do think that Tress was maybe trying to push Beanie on. There were talks a few days ago about Berry possibly pulling out of his verbal. I think all of that has subsided, but isnt there atleast some small inkling that this is because Beanie would be the starter and Berry would be coming off the bench?
Its all a recruiting game. Obviously he doesnt want to lose his top recruit, so he promises substantial playing time to Berry. He realizes that if Beanie stays then Berry may not get the PT that he wants and decides he wants to go to another school, possibly losing him to a school that we play.
I dont know, but it is my opinion that Tress is pushing Beanie to make room for Berry. Thats just me though.

For Saine, I figure he will be used as a slot receiver for wheel routes and so on. Herron will be someone to compete with Berry, but Berry is more likely to see equal playing time to Herron (if he is what is being hyped up) than he would have equal playing time with Beanie.
Re: Chris Wells future
Beanie is much faster then Eddie George ever thought of being. They are two different players in my opinion.
Peterson played after having surgey on a shoulder---different story.
I am sorry, but no one is going to convince me that they are trying to make room for Berry. That would be like me saying, oh well Carr is encouraging Braylon to go pro a junior because they are bringing in Manningham who wants to play early. Berry is not nearly the back Beanie is. If you watched him in the UA All-American game, he didn't convince me he was a come in and contribute right away back. If someone is trying to push Beanie out the door---then that is on them!
Beanie will be good in the NFL, because unless you play for the Chargers, then there are always at least two backs who play.

I'm not so sure Berry is the best running back OSU has coming in next year. I know this young man is a fullback but he kind of reminds me a little of Beanie Wells and looks like former Marshall QB Byron Leftwitch.

Re: Chris Wells future
idk i think its a 50/50 shot .....he does have a big family to take care of and would get that guaranteed contract, he is injury prone so if he would stay and get a serious career threatening injury and not play anymore but on the other side he said he wanted to be the best back to ever go through ohio state and he def. hasnt done that yet and he said he wants to accomplish more than he has but todd mcshay dropped beanie down to 22nd after the fiesta bowl....and were will todd boechman go im kinda curious if he goes somewere and becomes a starter some were down the road
Re: Chris Wells future
and yet, I bet he still ends up being a millionaire even if he only plays one year

Re: Chris Wells future
If you play 5 years in the pros, you are not a bust. That is actually a pretty good career at running back, if you play full time.
Wells would thrive in Pittsburgh's system. A system where he could share running responsibilities with a "sproles typoe back"

Re: Chris Wells future
In the Pittsburgh, I could see that work. They need a power back to punch in from the goal line.
I would like to see him stay one more year. It would be the best thing for Pryor.

Re: Chris Wells future
Beanie had a concussion.
Tressel always urges players to go pro if they are first round guys after their junior year.
This is great for the player, that he has his coaches support,
and great for recruiting.
He has said many times, that if you are pro ready after three years and
can be drafted in the first or early second round then you should go pro.
He is not pushing Beanie out.
As for depth charts, Herron will be above Saine, and if Berry wants
to break into the depth chart and get carries as a freshman, he
will have to practice well and show Tressel that he can run just
as well or better ON A CONSISTENT basis than Herron.
The only problem with next years depth chart at any position is going
to be at Quarterback. There is a good amount of discussion concerning Joe Bowserman and
a transfer out of the program. If this happens we have no backup for Tyrell Pryor.
If Pryor gets hurt in this situation, the Buckeyes are worse off at QB than Michigan was this year.
If Bowserman stays, we still only have 1 backup, if Pryor gets hurt it's Bowserman
and then nothing.
