What would the national title picture look like if we had a NFL style playoff?
I'll take the 12/07/08 BCS standings and place those teams in a
12 team NFL style playoff, then using the same seeded upsets that
occured this season in the NFL, narrow down to our final four.
Let's see just how much you playoff junkies like the national title then.
Round One
1) Oklahoma (Bye)
2) Florida (Bye)
3) Texas (Bye)
4) Alabama (Bye)
5) USC vs. Cincinnati
6) Utah vs. TCU
7) Texas Tech vs. Ohio State
8: Penn St. vs. Boise St.
In round one of the NFL playoffs the worst record was San Diego, they won, the lowest seeded team moves on
in the NCAA simulation. Also, the second, third and forth worst records won, so their counterparts move on.
Round Two
Oklahoma vs. Cincinnati
Florida vs. TCU
Texas vs. Ohio State
Alabama vs. Boise St.
The only high seed to move on in the NFL rounds was Pittsburg, who was in a 3 way tie for the 2nd best
record at 12-4. The only mock game that reflects reality was Texas and Ohio State, so Texas will move on.
Round 3
Texas vs. Cincinnati
Boise St. vs. TCU
This is where we would stand.
Before you clowns go and get your playoff panties in a wad, this is completely hypothetical.
This is not out of bounds of reality though, take into consideration how many times
the best NFL team record wise has fail to win the superbowl. Also, look at how many upsets there
have been of "the best" NCAA basketball teams.
The BCS is not perfect by any means, but it generally does get the correct two teams in the title game,
and we can almost always live with the outcome that the game gives us. Are you really prepared to
have Cincinnati as a National Champion in football?

Some good points there, I've stated alot on here that i like the current system cause at the end they do normally get it right. People on here think that Oklahoma shouldn't have been in the title game but I thought that they should have. Beeing that there non-conf schedule was tuff.

I second that, I think that if college football does go to a playoff system if will turn into a one month sport like basketball. Now maybe not as bad but alot and I mean ALOT of games will have less meaning. Example would be texas vs Oklahoma,, Michigan vs OSU, Pitt vs WVU, FSU vs UF pretty much what college football has been building the last century would be lost.

Re: College Playoffs, NFL Style
I can see the benefits of taking the top 4 teams,
playing 1/4 and 2/3 then facing off the winners.
But there are also years where this didn't need to occur,
take the Miami/OSU year, there was no need to add in two more
teams.
The year Florida played OSU, Michigan had a small claim to be in the game,
but OSU had just beaten them, and there was no definative 4th team in the
mix.
The last two years, sure, there has been good debate, but if a playoff comes in
then you loose that debate, or it becomes who the from 7-10 deserves to get
that last spot.
Well, if you're 7-10, you don't deserve to get a shot at the title. Win the games you schedule
and hope somebody doesn't have an equal record with a tougher schedule.
