Anthony Hitchens and the Akron Zips won the MAC tournament by beating Buffalo 65-53 in the championship game. Hitchens wasn't expected to play because of a sprained left ankle that he suffered during the quarterfinals. However, he was a key contributor off the bench, scoring 10 points in 14 minutes. The Zips championship comes nearly one year after Hitchens and Chillicothe won the Division II state championship. Congrats to Humpty.

bobcat,
Thanks for the pics. I did not see them on ESPN. Humpty had an excellent 14 minutes tonight (basically playing on one leg). I loved the heading on the ESPN recap.
"Freshman guard Hitchens sparks Akron to its first NCAA tourney berth since 1986"
Also, congrats to Hump on making the MAC All-Freshman team this year. Only 5 kids selected. He also received a vote for Freshman of the year.
GO CAVS!!! GO ZIPS!!!

Re: Congrats to Anthony Hitchens
Amazing job by Hitchens and the Zips this week. Talked to his father at the Chilly/Marietta game friday, and his thoughts were basically that he didn't think he would play the rest of the weekend after severely turning his ankle. To play 14 minutes in the Championship game is a testament to Humpty's toughness and determination... of course, those of us at Chilly who watched him the last 3 years already knew that. Also, while he logged 14 minutes last night, all 10 of his points came in a 4 minute span to close the first half, making all 4 shots he took in that time. Bill Livingston from the Cleveland Plain Dealer had some nice comments on him in this morning's paper... Livingston is a well known and respected columnist nationally. All the best to Humpty and the Zips next week, would love to see em assigned to UD Arena where some first and second round games will be played. Go Zips!!!!!!
