Ohio State to put in new offense
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/ncfnation/0-7-7/Big-Ten-lunch-links--New-offense-at-Ohio-State.html
I saw this while surfing ESPN. Ohio State will be putting in a new offense for the upcoming season! I'm excited for it and hopefully it works!
Also with in the story is a link to the main article from the Dispatch.

It IS April 1st. This can't be a Tressel offense. Where's the punter?

Re: Ohio State to put in new offense
The coaching staff visited the following schools for brainstorming
and learning sessions this past winter.
Duke
North Carolina
Wake Forest
NC State
Glad to see they're focused on learning from excellence.

Those are all good schools who have shown a ton of improvement.
I think that tress most be looking at how different teams run the spread. The big ten hasn't used a lot of spread with a couple of exceptions throughout the years. Each school runs it a little different, some use it more some use it less but each has there own way of running it.

Re: Ohio State to put in new offense
Improvement that takes them to the grand levels of mediocre to average.
NC State has stepped backwards over the last 5 years,
Duke is one of the worst football teams in the country,
North Carolina is good once every 17 years (so are Locusts)
only Wake Forest is a team to look at.
Even then, they wouldn't be first on a list of teams to build an
offense around that features Terrel Pryor.

Have you been paying attention to Dukes and NC programs????
They are turnning around and they both are pretty good. Now I am not saying they are top10 teams but they are really improving.

Re: Ohio State to put in new offense
Duke was 1-7 in the ACC and 4-8 overall last year,
2 of their wins came against James Madison and Navy,
and they only won 1 game after September 27th.
North Carolina was 4-4 and 8-5 respectivly,
with easy wins coming against McNesse St, Duke, and Notre Dame,
they did have a couple of good wins, and have a good coach,
but like I said, they are good every once in awhile.
These aren't teams that you look at and say, I'd like to design my new
scheme around what they do.

If there is one thing Duke's coach (David Cutcliffe) knows, it's QBs. Also, didn't O'Brien do a lot with Matt Ryan before leaving for NC State? North Carolina is coached by Butch Davis. It doesn't matter what the school name says. Finally, anyone from SEO should know that Jim Grobe can coach.
Also, I believe the staff from Ole Miss came to Columbus to visit with OSU's staff.

Wow, I'm not the only one who knows that OSU is going to the right places to look at new Offenses.
I knew he could coach when he was at OU. I just wish he would have stuck around.

Re: Ohio State to put in new offense
Never said anything negative about Grobe and Wake,
Cutcliff knows big armed, pocket passers (helps when they're named Manning),
I said UNC had a good coach in Davis, they're still only good once in a blue moon,
and Matt Ryan and Pryor are apples and oranges.
Tressel and his staff went to go and look at offensive styles that
will help mold an offense around Tyrell Pryor, and maximize the amount
of yardage they get from him both through the air and on the ground.
Duke, UNC, and NC State are bogus for this purpose, Wake is acceptable
but not ideal.
Would have much rather seen them go and check out schemes with Mike Bollati,
Mack Brown, or Urban Myer. I'd include Rich Rod in that list but that ain't happening know,
and Joe Pa isn't giving out any help either. I like the Jim Grobe visit, and can see the visit with
O'Brian, but UNC and Duke are completely out.
When Penn St wanted to learn how to make Michael Robinson effective, they went to Texas
and studied what Mack Brown did with Vince Young.

Ok do you really think Rich Rod or Meyer are going to help out the Buckeyes? You gotta go where you can get the help. Forget the teams look at the coaches and how they have done in their career. This should be pretty cool to see in the spring abut how this offense will work out.

I would visit Texas but Mac Brown runs a 1 read system so thats not any good. (at least he did with Vince.)

Except your not going to see much in the spring.
Only 2 QBs available in Spring drills, Tress has already said
that contact will be a minimum for QBs, and
that much of the new stuff will be worked on during the summer.

I expect much more out of this years offensive line, but if it doesn't
improve, one read is all Pryor is going to get.

Yea, thats true!!!!!!
you would think tress would put some more time into the line this year instead of just lining them up and hoping they will do there job.

The line had some injuries last year, and it's been proven many times that Alex Boone is a head case.
I just don't think the line had any true leadership last year.
It has to work both individually and as a unit.
It just wasn't going to happen last year.
I think with Adams, Shugarts, and Brewster we have a core of guys who desire to accomplish great things.
Should be fun to watch.

Re: Ohio State to put in new offense
Pryor is really well built to line up in the pistol, it gives him a chance to run and better create space between himself and rushers, while keeping the downhill momentum a RB makes between the snap and getting handed the ball.

I think the line will be better but I guess we will have to wait and see.
