- Senior Brigham Waginger, the school's all-time leader in steals with 238 and counting after Saturday night, moved into 10th place on Western Carolina's career assists chart, supplanting current WCU assistant coach Anquell McCollum (315, 1993-96) on the list ... Waginger has 324 career assists to rank 10th on the career list;

- Waginger also moved into sole possession of seventh place on the Southern Conference's career steals list, by-passing both Ricky Hickman (UNC Greensboro) and Rodney Peel (Appalachian State);

And Western Carolina won that game 83-81 in a barn burner that went down to the wire. Wheelersburg's Drew Spradlin plays for Elon, starting as a sophomore and now leading the young Elon team in scoring. For a few minutes, Western switched Brig to put him on Spradlin. Drew got the last Elon basket, but Brigham's team got the last word by 2 points. Not to be overshadowed, Drew had 22 points vs the Catamounts, and our family watched the two on the TV feed. Great job from the two players from our area who represent us with pride! Senior AND sophomore.

Wow. What a game. What a great effort from both players for a full 40 minutes. What a great thing to see them play out their childhood dreams of DI basketball.

Drew is a great kid. I had a chance to meet him at a Burg media day a few years back. I am sure he will put up even bigger numbers before his playing days at Elon are over.

Good to see both young men representing SE Ohio.
