Week 6: Bucks vs. Indiana

Well, week 5 was a win....
...that's all the good there is to say about that!!!
How does Pryor recover from his Quad injury, can the O-Line at least make an attempt at blocking,
with injuries all over the secondary how is Indiana's potent passing attack going to affect the Buckeyes?
Those are all questions that the Buckeyes must answer this week, while getting the win and not looking ahead to Wisconsin.
At least they re-enter the friendly confines.
What are your thoughts?

Yes the Buckeyes defense is a ton better than Michigan's.
BUT!
The weak spots in our D have been in the secondary, and now with Moeller out, and Chekwa having back spasm issues,
the secondary is even more suspect.
The D-Line hasn't been getting enough pressure up front to help the secondary out either.
I'm confident that this game is a Buckeyes win, and it should be by a good margin.
But, I'm not just judging my worries off of one week, our secondary has had coverage issues all season.
It hasn't really mattered yet.
But if you haven't been paying attenion, Ben Chappel is a really good QB.

Chappel IMO best passer in big 10. And i believe coach tres will have the d-backs ready for the passing game of indiana.

Buckeyes kill Indiana..even attempting to make this out to be somewhat interesting is funny. Pryor is fine..the OSU D is fine..I think they simply had a brain fart against Illinois from playing EMU the week before.

I'd rather be conservative going into the outlook for this game and be happy with a blowout, than go into it expecting a huge win and be ticked off again.
The Indiana offensive matchup is a tougher matchup for the Buckeyes defense than the Wisconsin style off offense will be in two weeks.

Here is Bill Greene's take on the offensive line against Illinois. It is slightly critical of the O-line but not nearly as much many people. Ross Fulton also does Xs and Os breakdowns and he thinks the running backs left a lot of yards on the field.
"OFFENSIVE LINE PLAY: Average.
Certainly not the finest moment for the five starters, nor offensive line coach Jim Bollman, as the Buckeyes never seemed to get a handle on the Illinois' slanting front or blitz package. After the game, the linemen talked about the confusing scheme, but that's where coaching needs to get it solved within three hours of play. Ohio State's tackles never seemed to get a handle on the blitzing linebacker, and I don't believe it was lack of talent, but rather lack of preparation and adjustment.
To their credit, they were able to muscle down the clock late in the fourth, and put the game away with a tractor-pull drive following an Illinois field goal that cut the lead to 17-13. Note to Ron Zook: thank you for kicking the field goal.
One of the drawbacks to the offensive line not playing great football is it exposes the mediocrity of Brandon Saine and Dan Herron, who need tremendous blocking at the point of attack to gain yards. Saine, in particular, looks lost with the ball in his hands and should not be carrying the football in the running game. Herron had 23 carries and his longest run was 13 yards, averaging four yards per crack. Boom tries hard but doesn't have the ability to cut back into the hole in an instant, which leaves yardage on the table. Could Jordan Hall and/or Jaamal Berry do better behind this line? We don't know for sure, and we probably won't this season, but I have to think they both would. Right now, if Ohio State blocks them five yards, the backs gain five yards. Making the first defender miss doesn't happen, and that's the staple of an exceptional tailback. Bottom line: Average line play, with average backs carrying the football, is what happened last Saturday. The offensive line has to play better, because the backs are who they are."

The Buckeyes O-Line is bad, and our top 2 running backs are nothing special.
If we are going to run the ball up the middle and inside the tackles, then why not line up with
Zach Boren at Fullback and Carlos Hyde at Running Back.

Or Jamaal Berry who will hit the hole hard and find a crease to explode through.
As far as our defense matching up against Indiana, I think it is more about our ends and D line getting pressure on Chapel and not letting him sit in the pocket and pick our banged up secondary apart. That will be the key.
We will see if the defensive play calling gets aggressive, or if we sit our our heels in a zone coverage and get bombarded. But we cant bring the 3-4 down linemen only and expect them to rush the passer.
JMO. I will be at the Shoe for this one. I am tired of giving my tickets away now that we are into the conference schedule!

Even though last week's game was too close, you do have to realize that that game was a rivalry game and regardless the difference in talent level, the game will be a close, hard-nosed game.
Back to this week, the Buckeyes should win by a landslide. Their defense is too good for this Indiana team, or for any Big 10 team for that matter. I believe Pryor will man up and lead this team to victory this week despite his injuries.
About last week's Indiana v. Michigan game, I think Michigan is overrated. Sure Denard Robinson has put up some astounding numbers, he's played against teams that are mediocre at best. I would like to see what he can do against the likes of Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Until he plays a legitimate defense, I'm not buying into this whole Heisman candidate thing.
Buckeyes by 6 scores.

i voted buckeyes by 10 or less. i do not think we are playing to our potential at all, i expected much more out of our running game. our redzone scoring is not good. our line has pryor running for his life. our defense was weak last week. and who really knows to what point terrelle is injured, or recovered for that matter. i feel we are far superior on paper, but not proving it yet. one thing for sure. we better get by this week. cause then all the big boys in the big ten come up. and if we have a poor showing against indiana, oregon will surpass us. mark may will see to that.

I agree with your assesment, but I do think Illinois woke OSU up. I believe the defense realizes they need to step up their game..... that play time is over.

Red-dog,
Sorry Buckeye fans to post on your thread about Michigan, but that great Wisconsin defense that just gave up 34 to MSU in a LOSS? We will see this weekend against a defense that is much better then Wisconsins. How about the Iowa defense he ran all over last year? We shall see but to say the kid is not for real is hilarious.
Anyways, I think the Dline will give Indiana enough truble that they will get much more pressure on Chappel. Indiana is as soft as tissue paper against the run. I say OSU will run it, mix in some play action, and win in a conservative game.
OSU 35
Indiana 17
