How does this impact the OSU defense who has been plagued by injury on the defensive side already?

Christian Bryant takes the spot of Moeller at the "star" position (nickle back).

Bryant is a great athlete, and will be a fine replacement, but he is young and has little game experience. Having him in the game against Indiana, where we will be playing Nickle a lot, will be very valuable for his development and to see how he is going to be able to handle the position.

The Defense has been benged up in the secondary, which is the primary reason that teams have been able to throw the ball. For all the injuries and all the negative thoughts expressed about the secondary play though, teams aren't lighting up the Buckeyes D. Nobody can run on the Buckeyes, and despite this, no one has been able to throw consistantly, when the Buckeyes are in a situation where they have to be focused.

Does the injury hurt, yes! It hurts not only from the on field production stand point, but Tyler has worked very hard to overcome his head injury and make his way back to being an impact player. I affects the on-field emotional leadership that Tyler broguht. Players will have to step up, and galvanize themselves to play hard and make up for his loss. The team has plenty of leadership though, and I'm confident that it will be taken care of.

The bigger issue for the Buckeyes is the stability of Pryor's quad, and his ability to run. The way the line is playing, he needs to be healthy and able to move quickly to be effective. If he's hampered mobility wise, then that means Tressel will shut down the offense and play a gameplan similar to what we had after the Purdue loss last year. This system will still get the Buckeyes wins, but will not gain appriciation in the eyes of voters, and may cost the Buckeyes a spot or two in the polls.

But can a defense who is banged up still stop a denard Robinson who only gets better each week?

Since they don't play anyone like him for another 8 weeks, they will have plenty of time to gel as a secondary unit.

Ohio State has 15 minutes of every practice they run dedicated to Michigan.
They have specific drills that they run every day call Maize and Blue drills.
At some point during the practice, every time they are on the practice field, they are putting in game plan
designed to stop Denard Robinson.

It's not a lot of time during practice, and they have plenty of time to get ready for each weeks new opponent.
But during the week the Buckeyes are allowed 20 hours of practice time.
One hour and 15 minutes of that time is dedicated to Michigan.

So don't worry about what the defense is going to do against Denard Robinson.

AGREED , OUR CONCERN THIS WEEK IS OUR OPPONENT. WHICH IS INDIANA, WHO VERY NEARLY BEAT UNBEATEN MICHIGAN. HATE TO HEAR THAT ABOUT MOELLER. I FIND HIM VERY INSPIRATIONAL, AND THAT WILL BE A BIG LOSS, ANY DEFINATIVE NEWS ABOUT PRYOR'S QUAD.

OSU is petitioning the NCAA for a medical redshirt for Tyler, here's to hoping the NCAA helps out a fine young man.

Here is the word straight from Tress, as transcribed from his tuesday press conference.
REPORTER: Jim, what's the status of Terrelle with the quad? What's he talking to you about?

COACH TRESSEL: Sunday we did a little bit of drills and weight lifting and all that, so we didn't really test it, per se. Yesterday was our day off and he was in doing his film study and his rehab and all. I would expect every day he'll get closer to 100%. I don't know who's 100% after five games that has as much wear and tear as a guy that has his hands on the ball, but I think he'll be fine.

REPORTER: Is it a strain or what's the nature of it?

COACH TRESSEL: That would be as good a word as anything. I don't really even know.

REPORTER: It's upper leg?

COACH TRESSEL: Yes.

REPORTER: Do you try to prepare the game plan not knowing or how he'll be limited mobility-wise because that's such a big part of his game? Is that going to be kind of hard to monitor?

COACH TRESSEL: Well, I think you always have to have in your bag of tricks things for a strong wind in your face, things for a mobile quarterback, things for a quarterback that's not as mobile. We kind of went through that last year. Those last three games, we didn't have the mobility at that position, but we always say that that position first and foremost has to make good decisions, which he won't be hampered at, at all, and he's got to keep us from having turnovers. And the decisions have a lot to do with that and we always say that that position has to make big plays.

Now, maybe some of those big plays won't be done as much with the feet, but we can still do them with the arm. So we'll go in with the whole gamut like we always do.

REPORTER: Does that type of injury, though, affect his plant leg when he's trying to throw the ball?

COACH TRESSEL: No, I don't think so.

Hope he gets a 6th year. His attitude to make it back and overcome and play at a high level should be what the NCAA wants to see in its players. This hurts the defense but they seem to be overcoming injuries so far. Time for the DLine to dominate games and make it easier on the rest of the team. The defense may have to score if Pryor is not able to play or at full strength.

I'd be willing to bet OSU spends a few minutes each week even now working on defending him...it's still Michigan.. no way Tressel is going to let a one-trick pony beat him in the Shoe.
