Notre Dame @ USC 11/27/10

Post by therepublican »

Welp, the Irish are getting ready to head into Southern Cal territory. What are the thoughts on a 6-5 Irish (who beat a reputable Utah team a few weeks ago and have a new freshamn QB in Tommy Reese) going into USC? Suprisingly Reese has held his own at this point and has produced a lot more than Dayne Crist. Surprisingly the Irish are bowl eligable and Kelly wants a bowl game for the extra 15 practices he gets with the team. Keep in mind, today a news report announced a (unnamed) Irish player is under investigation for an alleged sexual battery of a girl that died of an OD the other night. Not sure how this will effect the Irish going into this Saturday's game, but ESPN leaked the story and I am sure it will hit the ways by tonight (already on espn.com) Kelly kept his mouth shut to the reporters and wasn't commenting on the issue. I am tired of the drama saga in South Bend, but what do you all think about the game? Can the Irish finish 7-5 on the regular season and capture an 8-5 overall season? What are the possibilities for the Irish at this point?

Kelly should absolutely accept whatever bowl invite he gets. The extra practice is invaluable.

I don't see the Irish getting the win this week, but could finish with 7 wins with a bowl win.

It's no wonder ESPN leaked the story, their head is a USC alum and booster.

IMO, it is going to be difficult for the Irish to win in LA this weekend. Kelly brings in a young team and has been hit hard by injuries this season. I have admired Coach Kelly since he coached at Grand Valley State in D II. It is imperative that he accept a bowl invitation to give his young team the extra practice sessions needed and build for next year. As hard as it is for me to say, he will turn the ship around in South Bend. His record this year would have been better if it hadnt been for the injuires. Republican, do you know difficult that was for me to write? ;-)

Coach Kelly stated a few weeks back how important it would be for the program to go to a bowl - mainly for the extra practices....so the Irish will be bowling. If projections hold- they will go to the sun bowl (el paso) if they lose this week - Champs Sports bowl in Orlando if they beat USC and go to 7-5!

USC over ND by 14+

ND going to a bowl makes this season a success for Kelly. The extra practice time is priceless.

Welp, the ole Irish walked into Southern Cal's backyard and beat em'. Not sure how to assess the game :S It did snap and eight year losing streak which is good for the psyche of the players going into a bowl game. But, I kind of feel we stepped on the necks of a team that was really down compared to previous seasons..Floyd proved he is one of the best wideouts in the nation and Teo was hish usual freakish self at the LB spot.

What does everyone else get from the ND win?

Great win. USC was not what they normally are, but remember: all of Pete Carrolls teams are at least partially tainted. Notre Dame has been bad and has done it the honest way as I said earlier. USC is rightfully in the doldrums and the Irish are on the rise.

YAY!! Notre Dame gets to go to the Caphole.com Bowl!

It was a decent win for the Irish and if they get a Bowl win then it will really carry a lot of momentum into the offseason.
