College Football Open Discussion 2024

Post by Zahns Corner »

How about a "open" topic about all things college football not related to Ohio State.

To start off

Michigan’s Moore faces allegations of NCAA violations in sign-stealing investigation, AP sources say

https://apnews.com/article/michigan-sig ... c33f322bf5

Additionally Kentucky football placed on probation and will vacate wins

Big Ten well represented in USA Today Coaches Preseason Top 25 College Football Poll

2. Ohio State
3. Oregon
8. Michigan
9. Penn State
23. Southern Cal
25. Iowa

Kinda of odd seeing Oregon and USC listed with the Big 10.

I'm sure Jimmy couldn't care less about that punishment since he has 80 million to roll around in now.

Pretty much. That and Harbaugh broke the Ohio State hold over Michigan through psychology, building a NFL level coaching staff, and developing players into the best offensive and defensive lines that CFB has seen for several years. Yeah, they cheated and got caught, but they have a Natty and are living rent free in Ohio State's heads. That does not sit well with me, but that is the way of the world.

Agree. They might have broke the rules but that image of them of winning will never go away.

Iowa's Kirk Ferentz suspended for season-opening game over violations related to Cade McNamara recruitment

The NCAA must be so mad at Harbaugh that they punished Ferentz!

Michigan football receives formal Notice of Allegations over improper in person scouting of opponents and lack of cooperation from the institution during the investigation:

https://sports.yahoo.com/report-michiga ... 06338.html

Of note, there are no specific allegations or charges as to in-game stealing of signs.

It will be interesting if Michigan goes ahead and accepts the findings and moves to negotiate a punishment with the NCAA so as to start serving the penalties to get them out of the way sooner rather than later.

Michigan will likely be hit with scholarship restrictions, coaching and administrative suspensions, and maybe have wins vacated. Things well short of harsher penalties Ohio State fans are hoping for.

Then again, as the power of the NCAA dwindles in each court case they lose, Michigan might decide to fight the charges and try to outlast the organization.

Either way, Michigan's national championship seems secure.

Missouri, ttun should have dropped out.
SMU needs more love in the polls.
Miami should be ranked ahead of Georgia. Wins and losses matter, even though some wins are ugly!

And possibly Pitt with QB Eli Holstein. The Alabama transfer has that indefinable "it" factor or knack of making the big play in the clutch. I don't think his surrounding cast is that great, but they are in a position to challenge in the ACC.
