Etta Express Ranked #12

Post by Etta34 »

For this upcoming Baseball season the Pioneers start the season ranked preseason #12 with OAC foe Heidelberg ranked #1. Looks to be a promising season for the Pios, they also are a host of the regionals again this year when tourney time rolls around.

Great article in th PDT the other day about Wheelersburg graduate Aaron Hopper and his success in his freshman season with the Pioneers. They also mentioned how he will be an intregal part of the teams success this year. He was one of the better hitters I ever saw coming up through the ranks at Wheelersburg, from Little League through high school and I'm not surprised to see him be successful at the next level. Great young man and I wish him nothing but the best in his college career.

Etta Express goes 7-1 in Port Charlotte, FL (10-1 on the season) and now ranked #8 in D3. The Pioneers swept a solid Carthage NY team in a DH on Saturday 3-2 and 5-4 in 14 innings. Marietta's own Evan Brockmeier with the win on the mound in the 14 inning dual going 3 innings. Brockmeier also had 2 hits and 2 RBI in the win driving in Wheelersburg's Aaron Hopper to tie the game in the 5th inning. Hopper also had a solid game with a triple and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 14th.

Closest if you call it that would be Wilmington. Play Otterbein in Columbus and Ohio Wesleyn in Delaware. Although Marietta is probably just about as close. 2 hours and an easy drive. Worth a visit to see Don Schaly Stadium. Very nice facility for a Div III complex. Marietta will be hosting the NCAA D3 Mideast Regional again this year and would be worth a trip to catch a couple games then. Will see some of the top D3 teams in the region looking to make a trip to the D3 World Series in Wisconsin.

In case anyone is interested. I found the other day that the Marietta .vs. Capital DH (1-7, 1-9) scheduled on April 13th is supposed to be played at VA Memorial Stadium (all turf field) in Chillicothe. First pitch of game 1 is scheduled for 1pm. If you haven't watched a baseball game at this stadium you should make it a point to. Great old-time baseball feel and atmosphere.

On another note Marietta has moved up to #4 nationally according to D3Baseball.com. Last weekend was a week of top 10 upsets in D3 baseball.

Cool. If I'm off work that day I'll just have to make the trip north to see Aaron play. Thanks for the info Buldog!!
