The Etta Express of Marietta have taken over as the #1 ranked NCAA D3 team in nation this week. Marietta's record stands at 27-3 and 11-1 in the OAC.

I have seen them play several times. They are clearly one of the best baseball teams in the nation at any level, let alone Division III. Quality kids and quality coaches at a quality school.

For anyone interested. #1 ranked Marietta College is scheduled to play and OAC DH (1-7 and 1-9) against John Carroll tomorrow starting at 1pm at Chillicothe VA memorial stadium.

#1 Marietta College (31-3 15-1) clinched the OAC season championship with a DH sweep of John Carroll 11-1 and 11-0 today at VA memorial stadium. Marietta will now host the OAC Tournament scheduled to begin on May 12th.

#1 Marietta College finishes their regular season OAC champs with an overall record of 35-3 (17-1). Marietta will host the 2011 OAC conference tournament scheduled to begin May 12th annd will play host to the 2011 Mideast Regional the following week.

#1 Etta Express (37-3) advances to OAC Tourney final with 4-1 win over John Carroll and 4-0 win over Heidelberg.

Brian Gasser went the distance in the 1st game over John Carroll giving up 1 run on 4 hits. Marietta was down 1-0 heading into the 7th when they strung together 6 straight hits to take the lead. Big 2 RBI double by senior CF John Snyder in the 7th to put Marietta up 2-1.

Austin Blaski threw a complete 9 inning 2 hit shutout beating a very solid Heidelberg team 4-0. The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd with Blaski and the Marietta defense doing the rest. RBI double by junior SS Tim Saunders and a followup 2 RBI double by sophomore RF Aaron Hopper.

Marietta faces the loser bracket winner of John Carroll/Heidelberg Saturday at 1pm. Game 2 at 4pm if necessary.

The Pioneers have been good for decades. I hope they keep it going and add another banner and title !!!!!

#1 Marietta drops #9 Heidelberg 7-3 in OAC Tourney Championship. 1st OAC tourney crown for the Pioneers since 2002.
Senior Mark Williams went 8 1/3 innings givin up 1 run on 3 hits before turning the game ove to Junior closer Kyle Lindquist who completed the final 1 1/3. Sophomore Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg) set the tone early in the top of the 2nd inning with an 11 pitch AB resulting in a solo homerun to LF putting the Pioneers up 1-0. Marietta would not look back as the closest Heidelberg would get would be within 3 runs at 4-1 headed into the 6th.

This team is one of the best college teams I've ever seen...I'd take them over 90% of the Division 1 programs.

I agree pressboxchamp. They, as I said earlier, are one of the very best teams in the country regardless of division, and that includes Division I. Plus, most of them are back next year.

Marietta will now play in the 7 team Mideast Regional hosted by Marietta College.

Marietta will begin play on Wednesday at 8pm against the winner of Frostburg State and Franklin. Winner of the 4 day event will advance to the D3 World Series in Grand Chute, WI.

Etta Express beat Frostburg State 7-2 .. Close game until late innings.. Game started late due to the rain earlier in the day..

Let me add... These boys can play ball.. 39-3 overall record... They are solid in all positions...

They are as fun of team to watch as I have seen in years. Great fundamentals and pitching. I wish them well in the NCAA.

The #1 ranked Etta Express defeated rival Heidelberg today to capture the MidEast Regional title and it's 21st berth to the NCAA D3 World Series starting May 27th in Appleton, WI. Marietta will be playing for its 5th National Championship and will face Salisbury at 2:15 on Friday.

On Friday Marietta pounded out 23 hits to defeat Heidelberg 23-6 in the winners bracket game to setup a rematch on Saturday

Today Marietta goes to the home half of the 6th tied 0-0 with Salisbury, then score 8 runs in their last three ABs for a 8-0 victory, and now play Chapman, a 9-4 winner today, in the 2nd round of the winner's bracket late Saturday afternoon.
