Just saw where Marshall head coach Charley Huff has resigned to take the head job at Southern Mississippi. The Herd has hired Tony Gibson away from NC State to fill the vacancy. Gibson is a WV native .

Another article indicated Marshall had not offered Huff an extension of his 4 year contact which was expiring. Plus Marshall already had an active search going for a new coach.

That's Crazy, He was up front or something else happened to already hire a New Coach players already applied for transfers ?

The Yahoo article suggests a mutual parting of ways. That and Huff was only 22-17 heading into 2024, and was coming off a losing season in 2023 and the University did not offer a new contract, so time to move on. Of course players will transfer out and transfer in, that is the normal for college football.

Huff was offered by Marshall. Huff went to where he would make more money than what Marshall would pay. Last year was not a good year then the start of this year as Marshall was not playing good. Then the change in QB's. Huff was ready to move on.

Some one at Marshall really mess up backing out of Bowl game now WOW will be hard to replace at this point ?

They have around 30 players who went to transfer portal including 3 quarterbacks.

Saw that. My first reaction was sadness then anger. Yet this is the new reality of college football.

The reality of the portal. As well as smaller schools being stepping stones to higher paying jobs. Which players are now taking advantage of.
Marshall knew this was a possibility before the Championship game was even played. They knew Huff was leaving. Now Marshall will get known for dropping out of a big bowl game and payoff. As the loyal Team players lose out. The portal should not allow players to leave before their bowl game. As well as coaches should finish the season before moving on. As both should have a penalty of not playing at least two games the next season.

Agree but losing a Coach but 29 players also ?

There was talk about a mass player exit before the game was played and not being able to play in a bowl game. As Coach Huff leaving was not a secret. Which is why they had a plan for a replacement coach. But keeping the players was not as easy to overcome. The game outside of the actual game played on the field. As the signing process for teams and scholarships for new players is coming up. Where many players after all is said and done will not have a team to play for. Giving up a scholarship with nothing in return.
