Marietta College is an outstanding program with exceptional student-athletes and coaches. This program certainly does not get the recognition by the media, both local and nationally, that it deserves. Good luck in pursuing back to back National titles!

The Etta Express win their NCAA D3 record 22nd MidEast Regional Title on Sunday by defeating the Manchester (IN) Spartans by a score of 7-3. Wow what a performance by the MC pitching staff and team after being knocked into the losers bracket on day 2 of the tourney. MC won 5 games in 3 days to take the title.

On Friday morning MC took down #2 seed Washington & Jefferson in a 9 inning complete game gem by Junior Mike Mulvey, then returned that same evening to defeat LaRoche where Senior Kyle Linquist (closer) started the game and went 8 1/3. On Saturday afternoon, Senior Austin Blaski pitched the Etta Express into the championship round by defeating a solid St John Fisher team going 6 solid innings on 2 days rest and the bullpen finished it off. Immediately following, Senior Mike Mahaffey dealt Manchester its first loss of the tourney by pitching 8 1/3 innings.

Then finally on Sunday, MC senior starter Brian Gasser (on 2 days rest) threw 6 solid innings and Linquist closed out the final 3 innings on 1 day rest to defeat Manchester by a score of 7-3.

In case anyone would like to watch the NCAA Tourney game highlights or full replays of the MC National Championship games follow this link http://www.ncaa.com/video/archive/baseball/d3. Look through the list of videos and click on the one you want to watch. Check out Hoppers opening game blast to LF on page #2 in the last highlight video on the right "Marietta finished Whitworth 13-2"

Don't believe Hopper or Brockmeire were recruited by OU. OU doesn't seem to recruit much local talent. Although MC probably would beat OU on any given day. :122249

Buldog-having seen both OU and Marietta play on a regular basis, I have no doubt that Marietta would beat them day in and day out. It is a shame if OU never tried to recruit Brockmeier or Hopper as both could easily have played and excelled there. I have no doubt about that. Hence lies the problem with OU baseball during the most recent regime.

If i was them, I would rather play for D-3 titles every year then struggle to win the Mac and never get to the CWS! I would be glad that OU didn't recruit me. Now that Carbone is gone that could be a different story, but time will tell.

My congrats as well to Marietta for winning another national championship. This is the first I saw of this since as usual the Portsmouth Daily Times didn't have anything about it in the paper.
