PROBLEMS AT LOGAN YOUTH TOURNAMENT THIS PAST WEEKEND??

Post by hoopsfan »

Was wondering if anyone had any problems at the Logan youth tournament this past weekend. I know there were several scheduling conflicts and miscommunications among some of the schedules. Also, the Logan personnel that we dealt with was downright nasty. I have had teams up there the previous three seasons and all things went well. Run well, etc. This year, however, some very poor planning, and poor attitudes on some of the site directors. Was wondering if anyone else had any bad experiences????

My team also had problems at the Logan Tournament. This was our first time attending the tournament and we will not be going back. The problem we had was that I was told by one of the tournament directors the wrong time for our third pool play game on Sunday. Because we didn't show up at 12pm for our game which we knew nothing about because we were told the game was at 5pm - we were made to forfeit. Our team was 2-0 at that time and the forfeit caused us not to get to play in the championship game or even play another game on Sunday. Some of the girls left in tears and everyone was upset. When I spoke to the tournament director either on the phone before this tournament began or on Sunday in person he was always very confused and unorganized. This tournament was a pain before it even began because when the brackets first came out the 3rd, 5th & 6th grade teams I registered were not even listed on any of the Pools & game schedules so I had to call and get that taken care of, then he misplaced our rosters and i had to resend those, then he called me late one evening with game time changes. Each time I spoke to him he was seriously confused and it consisted of me repeating back to him what he just said to make sure I was understanding him correctly. I had him repeat our game times several times and wrote down exactly what he said. Of course this man is not willing to admit that he told me the wrong game time.

The tournament was chaos in my opinion. So many teams were told to be there at certain times and then found out upon arrival that they didn't play for hours while others were forced to forfeit because they were misinformed of their game times. Disorganization is an understatement. As for nasty attitudes I completely agree as well. I cannot believe the rudeness of the director Mike to many different individuals. His actions were very uncalled for in a number of situations. I heard many teams state that they have attended for the past few years but will not be attending in the future. I personally will not take my child back to a tournament there again.

I guess my group wasn't the only one with problems. Very unfortunate for all of the people who put time, money, and planning into a weekend tournament (which usually includes hotel stay), to have the tournament run so poorly. I will definitely make sure my experience is heard by many in my area. I won't recommend anybody go to this tournament in the future. To be unorganized is senseless when so many teams and people are involved, but to be so rude in handling the situation is the worst part. Sounds like they just wanted the money and didn't want to put any work into it. Thanks for the replies all.

I e-mailed the tourney director to let him know my thoughts on what he did to our team & my thoughts on how this tournament was unorganized. His response was that our fans complained the whole tournament (which was NOT true) - we only complained when we were forced to forfeit a game we knew nothing about - wouldn't anyone complain if that was done to them? He also accused us of cheating by having players from West Virginia on our team. ALL of our teams' players were from the same school in OHIO. He doesn't want to admit he was wrong so he is lashing out at us by calling us complainers & cheaters. He is pathetic.

Anytime a team is really good at that level they get accused of cheating, especially if they are competing against teams that aren't used to losing or seeing a better brand of competition.

The OYB tournaments are the most competitive in the state and are the precursor to AAU play that begins at the 7th grade level. They are well run and very organized but also very very competitive and require travel. No cheating accusations will be made there. They are also a little pricey but for a 10 player team it breaks down nicely or falls back on sponsorship if available. Be ready though, I saw Lebron playing in them at a young age and coached against Jamar Butler and Dequan Cook to name a couple. Boys or course.
