Does anybody have any details how the 7th and 8th grade games went against Fairfield on Saturday? I wasn't there and need some information.

Monday night is the much anticipated rematch with Fayetteville in what could decide the league championships for the regular season at both the 7th and 8th grades.

7th grade Peebles 49~13. The team played a little flat at the start of the game. Everyone contributed in the win.

Leesburg moved the ball well on offense and played well early.

8th grade Peebles won also and I do not remember the score. Alex McFarland and Haley Green played well for the 8th grade.

Monday Fayetteville will be at Peebles for a non-league game.

Thanks for the info. Monday will be a couple of huge games for the girls and it doesn't surprise me they came out a little flat on Saturday looking ahead to Monday. That's not too bad when you come out flat and still win by 36 points.

As far as the 8th graders, Alex McFarland and Haley Greene have both been playing some very good basketball lately and it's good to hear it continued in the win on Saturday.

I guess I didn't realize Monday's game with Fayetteville was considered to be non-league, but regardless that will be the biggest game on the schedule since the first game of the year when these two schools faced off in the actual SHL contest.

I may be wrong, but in the SHL, when the schools in each separate division....large/small school.... play, I thought both were considered league games. For example if Peebles and NA play twice only one would be league, if Peebles and Fayetteville play twice as they automatically do...both are league. Correct me if I'm wrong...I've just always thought that's how it was.

I'm pretty sure in Jr. Hi everyone has 9 league games (1 against each of the league schools). Any team you play only once is automatically a league game and then the teams you play twice, one of them is designated as a league game.

hoopin, Correct!

In Junior high, you only have 1 league game against each team. Any game you play against a team a second time is a non league game no matter if it is big or small school division teams. In Junior High, there is no distinction between big and small school teams.

In high school, shljunkie is correct.

Is that the reason why North Adams is not going to play Peebles a second time to make up their snowed out game from earlier in the year? I take it the first game at North Adams counted as the league game and then the snowed out game was a non-league contest.

The game at North Adams did count as the league game. As the start of the season, it was designated as the league game.

So why was the cancelled game not made up? I'm just thinking Jr High coaches would want to try and get the games made up, even though they may not "count" they have a short season and the more games the kids can play the better.

Bucknut, The 8th grade girls score was Peebles 44 Fairfield 30.

We are all looking forward to the Game with Fayetteville. This will be the only close game left on the schedule other than the tournament for the 7th grade girls.

I agree and I just can't see with the two schools being so close to each other that a workable date could not have been found to make the game up. North Adams 7th grade team has had a very good season and is currently above .500 and their 8th grade team gave Peebles a very good game all the way through and Peebles just pulled away at the end. North Adams has some very good 8th grade girls.

bevo - Thanks for the score on the 8th grade game.

Too bad school was cancelled today because that probably means the game with Fayetteville won't be played. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to "re-schedule" that one since it isn't a league game. I would bet that an agreeable date will be found though for Fayetteville.

Peebles 7th grade girls lost to Fayettville 27-25 in a very ugly game. The Peebles 8th grade girls won by 3 pts.

WOW! Almost speechless! Congrats to Fayetteville and their coaching staff. The coach from Fayetteville is one of the classiest coaches I have ever met, so it couldn't have happened to a better person.

I am sure Peebles will respond to this. Losses some times like this help bring things into perspective a little and focus teams a little better.

Slamdunk, it seems you can hardly contain your excitement! What couldn't have happened "to a better person"....a group of girls winning a basketball game??
Anyway, you are right, Peebles will rebound. It's very tough to beat teams by 25,30,40 points every time you play and then prepare for a game like this against a good team. I just have never been one of those people that think losing is a good thing at any time for any reason but I do hope that this game will better prepare them for tournament and I think that it will.

shljunkie, Sorry I forgot I have to spell things out for you. For coaches, it is very exciting to see your players accomplish something like beating a team as good as Peebles. So, getting a win vs. Peebles is a great accomplishment for the girls and the coaches. Congrats to them!

Congratulations to fayetteville on the win. The coaching staff had an excellent game plan. It appears we have the begining of a rivarly for yeras to come.

Peebles Athletic department needs to improve the non-league schedule for next years teams. Better competition will improve this team for high school. Someone needs to step-up and support the program.

I heard that Peebles got off to a 9-0 lead in the 7th grade game but then got in a little foul trouble. Fayetteville then went on something like a 14-2 run and took the lead. I wasn't at the game, but it sounded to be a very good one just like the first time they played at Fayetteville. Peebles won that one by 2 points. The gentleman who coaches at Fayetteville has been there for several years and does do an excellent job with those girls.

Congratulations to the Peebles 8th grade girls on the win over Fayetteville in a very close contest.

Bevo, I agree with you about the rivalry that will be between Fayetteville and Peebles over the next several years. They are both in the small school division in the SHL so once they get to high school they will play each other twice a year with both counting as league games. During the volleyball season, it came down to these two teams in the SHL for that championship. Fayetteville defeated Peebles in volleyball in both the regular season and in the championship game of the SHL tournament. Those were the only two losses on the season for Peebles and Fayetteville went undefeated.

At least in basketball Peebles should win the regular season championship in the 7th grade as they won the league game at Fayetteville in the season opener for both teams. I'm sure these two teams will face off once again in basketball this season in the SHL tournament championship game. Fayetteville has been the only team in the league that can match up fairly well with Peebles in guard play and size.

I also agree that the schedule for these girls and the girls coming up needs to be a little more challenging in non-league games. I do think that when Chillicothe was scheduled this year though that the AD's and coaches felt like that would be a very difficult game just because of the size of that school. However, Chilli just wasn't very good. Same way with Northwest. Next year it would be good to see teams like Jackson, Vinton County, Western Brown, Oak Hill, and Greenfield added as non-league opponents.

What sorts of rules apply to Jr High? I know in the SHL, teams don't get very many games scheduled then a lot of times if they are non-league and get cancelled they don't get made up. I agree they need to get to play more teams and more games to help prepare them for high school.

The junior high rule in Ohio is 14 games plus a tournament, not to exceed 4 games. So, teams could possibly play 17-18 games during the year. Of course some of these girls are going to play another 50 or so in AAU over the spring and summer.

In Kentucky, they play their middle school basketball in the fall for grades 6-8. There are NO limitations as far as quarters or games played in. I know of a situation where a couple of 6th graders in KY played on their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams in the fall and then this winter are dressing and playing on the Freshmen team and also dressing for JV.

Also, at Mason County, KY there is a 7th grader starting on their Varsity girls team and doing quite well.
