The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
jake...im glad you are proud of the clay boys, the coaches and that you got your moneys worth but i dont think the burg coaches were ever sweating the outcome of the game...
benchwarmer...i was told the 8th grade girls were scheduled to play Minford on Sat. but that four girls and their parents decided not to play the game, the coach then had to forfeit the game b/c he had only one girl...

Maybe not, but they were obviously squirming, and I wasn't alone in seeing, and saying it. I'm just proud of the effort.

Who is the powers-that-be at Clay? I would love to see if they could/would be interested in running a SOC I tournament for boys and girls.

Snowman, you are right. The 8th grade only had 1 girl show and they had to forfeit and I knew this. I was just trying to make it sound better. I know a lot of those girls and I think they have some good athletes on their team. Good luck to them next year in high school.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
clay has in the past...i was told last year it stopped when the other SOC 1 schools didnt have two boys and girls teams...i guess it became a headache trying to schedule games with byes and teams backing out...it would be hard for clay to host something like this with only one gym...maybe when the new school is built...
i can remember when clay had the girls tournament and nd had the boys...valley used to host the soc2 tourney but i believe they quit when it became a headache with fights and needing to hire so many deputies...
looking at the clay girls schedule...eastern and symmes valley are the only other teams with two girls teams

Oh well, I guess that is part of the small school deal. You just have to do with what you have. I just would love to see the girls and boys from Clay playing a more "equal" level of competition. What I was told was that we get in the Webster tournament because it has games for 7th girls and boys, and 8th girls and boys, and no one else guarantees that, close to home anyway.

Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
does anyone know who the jr high boys & girls 7th & 8th coaches are.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Did last years coaches not get rehired? That would be a big mistake for the boy's team. Coach Compton may have had a quick trigger after turnovers, but I saw a much more disciplined group as the year went along.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
last years coaches
8 boys roger compton
7 boys tony whitt
7 and 8 girls matt freeman
no reason to think they will not be back unless THEY do not want the job

Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I heard coach Compton has decided to stay at Clay Jr. high, but coach Whitt has moved on to help with his son's group. I was told at the McGraw league game last week that Carl Miller was a candidate for his replacement, but not sure.

Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Do you know how to get a hold of Coach Compton? I would like to schedule a preseason scrimmage game. Both 7th and 8th grade.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I got his number (Roger Compton) from the phone book. He lives in West Portsmouth.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I saw coach Compton at McGraw League tonight. He said if you wanted a scrimmage, just call him, he would be okay with it Tarheel 44

Hey Tar heel 44, I haven't been able to get ahold of coach Compton. Did you get your scrimmage with Clay?

I think the the 7th and 8th will do great. Because Levi Evens the 8th grade point guard last year got held back so the 8th this year will be amazing
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
3 way Scrimmage today at Rubyville, Clay, West and West Union. 7th grade West and West Union seemed ready for play, Clay did not. 8th grade, all I have to say is WOW! Clay is serious about making a run for the title. They shut out West Union one game, and manhandled West in the other. Great showing for all teams.

Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Yeah your 8th grade team did look reallly good. Very long and fast. But they did not shut us out, it was 22-3. Good luck to Clay and West this season.
