Gallipolis junior high teams top PPHS, 42-31 and 43-30

Host Gallipolis defeated Pt. Pleasant’s 7th and 8th grade teams 42-31 and 43-30 on the Washington School hardwood Thursday evening.

In the 7th grade game, Gallipolis trailed 10-9 after one period, but led 17-14 by halftime. After three periods, Gallipolis held a 31-20 advantage.

Terance Barnitz, who missed the Chillicothe game Tuesday in Gallia’s first loss of the year, came back strong Thursday with 11 points, but it was Bryan Williams who led all scorers with 15 points. C. Walton led PPHS with 10 points. C. Templeton added eight.

Gallipolis improved to 10-1 on the year. PPHS dropped to 6-2, both defeats coming at the hands of the Little Blue Devils.

In the nightcap, Gallipolis led 8-5 after one period and 17-14 during intermission. The Gallians were on top 33-23 going into the final quarter.

Jim Clagg led GAHS with 16 points. Cody Call added seven and Justin Bailey five. A. Perry tallied eight for PPHS. M. Griffin added seven and B. Reymond six.

Gallipolis improved to 10-1 overall. PPHS dropped to 5-4.

Tuesday, GAHS will host South Point in the Gallians 2008-09 home final. The 7th grade will start at 5:30 p.m.

Gallipolis still has makeup games with Jackson and Logan, both on the road.
