Burg 8th Grade Beat?!?!

Post by SportsFiend »

Well....not yet but it's gonna happen. They only won by two points last night barely squeaking one out over West 32-30. Someone better start kicking them in the butt instead of constantly blowing smoke up them. They are a very good team...no doubt...but they have come out lately and played with their heads in the clouds like they are undefeatable and almost got their butts handed to them...twice...with another near miss against Oak Hill by 5. Hot dogging it up and down the court, tossing the ball up underhanded and missing, making multiple stupid passes when they should have taken the open shot, no look passes and turning it over. It doesn't help when leadership acts the way they do towards everyone outside the starting line up...making insulting comments, criticizing in a demeaning way instead of constructively, throwing water on certain kids, telling others they will never amount to even decent players, protecting the starters at all cost and again, blowing smoke up their a$$es. Now they believe the hype and play like it. Half the team doesn't even see the floor and the little time they do is not enough for them to gain any experience. It's terrible!

And before anyone thinks it, no, my kid doesn't sit the bench and I'm not bitter. Being on top is nice but staying there is what takes hard work.

From one game I saw, it seemed like the best 5 players were not on the floor to start the game. It also looked to me like some Burg players may have thought you get points added for degree of difficulty. Having said that very good players on that team. We'd be happy to have McBee, Cowgill and Conley back at Minford.

lol...no, no. We'll keep your Falcons tyvm. :122249

"points added for degree of difficulty" is a good way to put it. I'm going to do my best to try and not lay blame on any one person or factor. It seems to be a collection of things going on. I know people from competing schools will read this and maybe come at them even harder. But it is my honest hope that the kids will get themselves in check and be ready for the challenge and that leadership from maybe even higher up the ladder might be able to step in before it's too late.

Let me say this...there are some very talented players on this team...no doubt about it. And I would never want to take away from that. However, it's a team sport. One where you work together with all 14 players and not just the ones you like.

Having watched this Burg team last year as 7th graders and again last night as 8th graders my thoughts are that they haven't improved much in a years time. Last year the West team couldn't play with them for 4 quarters. Last night the West team gave them a a tough run, quickness was the key this group of West kids have picked up tremendous speed over a year. Unless Burg just had a bad game I look for West to take a win in the next match up at home with hopefully one of their starters that didn't play last night back in the game. Good luck to both teams in the rest of the season.

I think West's players have grown and matured more than the burg players. They look like it anyway. Other than Massie Burg's players looked a little weak physically.

SportsFiend is 100% right about the 8th grade team. There is no accountability with the starting 5. But McBee did have a good game last night, and that's what saved them from losing last night. It seems that a circus shot is all they know. I lost track of the airballs last night. What's going on right now is sick. Anybody who watches this team play night in and night out knows what the problem is. It's as plain as the nose on your face. If it doesn't get fixed , they will lose.

The difference I see from last year to this year is coaching. You have to teach discipline at that age.

Well.......Welcome to the wonderful sport of basketball at Wheelersburg!!! It has always been that way and always will be. The so called coach of the team can't stay up off the floor (slapping the floor like a nut) long enough to teach his boys any disipline. They have to see it before they can do it. As for the Minford Kids they should have stayed where they were. They walked in there to open gym when they felt like it not having to worry about if they were going to make the team because they were already told it was a given to them and they knew that. The other kids trying out for the team busting their butts everyday...while they just sit back and take it easy. The coaches said they were looking for the best athletisim and the players with the best attitudes. Well they got it. Yes it is true, The starting 5 thinks they ARE the team, because that is how they were taught to be by the coach. The rest of the team gets crapped on by them both in school and out of school. They will see another kid out at Mcdonalds and won't even speak to them. It amazes me also that a kid that doesn't make the team at Wheelersburg can go to another school and be a starter. It has been done many times in past. One of the Minford Kids that made the team last year was a starter at Minford but hardly seen the court at Wheelersburg Hummm........... and I have no kid at Wheelersburg just Observing what I see and glad I am not the only person that sees it.

what comes around , goes around .or what goes around ,comes around.. i cant believe there in some rumblings about the transfers ..with burg being young at varsity level i would say that this grade will be split between jv - vars. in years to come.. the point gaurd is set for 3 more years . i can see this group playing together mabey 1 yr. and thats if some 7th graders dont pass them up just because of the holdback factor and the names of some younger players with true burg names in the younger class...

This will all be resolved at the highschool level. Barrick could care less what your name is or where you are from.

That statement is sure to make a few parents feel a little squirmy, but it is the truth. :-D

I really don't think that Barrick could give a rat's hind end who you are.

That is one of the reasons for his success at Wheelersburg, along with great athletes and good coaching... Long live Barrick!!!

so chloe, i take it your kid didnt make the basketball team, so you have it in for the kids that came here from minford, because it cut your kid out of a position ,possibly, i could be wrong but thats the way it sounds. That none of the kids on the team made it because they were good enough, because they have mommys and grandmas working at the school, so you say.
I really dont thinks it works that way, and i know coach Barrick could give a hoot who you are or what your name is.He does things his way,as well he should , its his program. He has cut plenty of good kids in the past and im sure he will in the future, no matter what your name is, or your affliation with anything. He has cut board members kids in the past , just to show you it doesnt matter. Also as for the not speaking to other kids at different places , i find that hard to believe also, but kids will be kids.

Keep working hard pirates, and good luck the rest of the season, dont worry about the nah-sayers, we believe in you .

Go Burg
