The numbers at last Sunday's practice/try-out for the WV Thunder 6th grade/11u were a little lighter than the previous ones due to some of the girls having league games, practices with their local teams for girls playing on freshmen teams, and some illness.
This Sunday should be better as the girls don't have conflicts with their local league games. Practice will be held at 1:00 - 3:00 again this Sunday at Huntington St. Joe High School.
On side note, the assistant coaches from Michigan State were supposed to make it down to watch Huntington St. Joe's high school practice on Tuesday and watch one of their sophomores and then go watch a girl from Huntington High School, Whitney Bays, who is rated as the # 11 prospect in the United States in the junior class.

Re: WV Thunder 11u/6th grade
As of right now, everything is still on for Sunday. Should it change it will be posted here as soon as Shannon Lewis decides. We will also try to call all the girls we have numbers for as well, because we know some families are driving a good distance.

Re: WV Thunder 11u/6th grade
The practice/try-out is still on for this Sunday, Feb. 1, at 1:00-3:00 for the 6th grade/11u and 5th grade/10u age divisions at Huntington St. Joe High School. See a previous post about the ages if you need to because it is a little difficult to understand. Basically, age divisions will go by grade level this year in AAU girls basketball.
Hope to see a good turn-out on Sunday.

Re: WV Thunder 11u/6th grade
It was a good turn-out on Sunday for the 5th grade and 6th grade practice/try-out for the WV Thunder AAU teams for this year. Some 6th graders can't be there because of school team practices for their freshman teams that they play on in Kentucky and in WV 6th graders are part of the Middle School (grades 6-8) and they also have Sunday practices. We also were missing girls or limited some due to illness and there are always leagues and tournaments that girls are sometimes playing in on Sundays. That being said, all the girls that were there got some quality gym time in going through a variety of drills working on various parts of their game.
The schedule for the 6th grade/11u WV Thunder team tentatively includes AAU Super Regional Tournaments in Roanoke, VA , Mason County, KY, and Merrilleville, IN near Louisville. It includes the State Tournament which will be either in Charleston, WV or Cincinnati, OH depending on what state we end up playing out of. There will also be a trip to Johnson City, TN near Pigeon Forge for the Tennessee Miracle Classic in early May. There are a few GBA Tournaments that are being looked at including three in Cincinnati, one in Athens, OH and one in Morgantown, WV. The season will begin on the weekend of March 21-22 and then finish with the Division I 6th grade/11u Nationals in Kenner, Louisiana near New Orleans at the end of June.

Re: WV Thunder 11u/6th grade
Practice/Try-outs will be held once again this Sunday, Feb. 8, from 1:00 - 3:00 at Huntington St. Joe High School. This will be for 6th grade/11u and 5th grade/10u girls.
With the season beginning in just around 6 weeks, decisions will have to be made soon on whether the 6th grade/11u team will be playing out of Ohio or WV based on the location of the majority of the girls. This is a good opportunity to get a good work-out in for two hours on a lot of skills and drills.
