Either way, You could give the 5th and 6th girls 3 hours on Thursday and 5th and 6th boys 3 hours on Friday or do them bother Thursday an hour and a half and take Friday off and go support the High school boys.

Great idea WestFan.
It is so hard to teach everything in two hours a week. We try to hit on everything during that two hours, but I believe at this age level FUNDAMENTALS are the most important thing. Let me just say this CLEVELAND BROWNS#1...we do go over plays and PRESS BREAKS, but come game time almost a week later, the girls have forgotten what we went over. I totally agree that press should be worked on but, when you have a couple of players that can barely dribble and catch, it's hard to get that press break working. Have you ever coached young girls? It's not an easy task...why don't you give it a try???

The support at wheelersburg shows...in all sports...including baseball...At Ironton..we struggle to get in two hours of practice a week for our 2nd thru 6th grade teams...Our AD has worked out an agreement with the teachers that take up our gym time nightly, which forces our kids who are in the 2nd thru 6th to practice after 7:30 if they want to practice at all...many of the practices don't start until 8:15 at night on school nights with the kids not getting home until close to 10...and then needing to get their baths etc...all while the cafeteria is never used, although it is larger than the gym...from what I understand the teachers say that the floor is too hard?...I thought that the gym was for the kids first...but who am I...As far as Baseball..I feel that Ironton Little league board is getting more people on it that are for the best interest of the kids...however they still have some of the baggage still on the board that continue to hamper the growth of Ironton's little league...hopefully after this season..Little league can get back to being for the kids...sad thing is...many kids have already made decisions for this season not play at Ironton...really could have had some good teams...at least those kids will do well where they have gone, and be able to learn and enjoy baseball without the constant bickering that goes on in Ironton...and hopefully they will come back after the baggage's are gone...Wheelersburg as I have seen really have a great support system...all the parents are welcomed to help and they do everything they can to make it a good environment for learning and having fun for the kids...At Ironton as it has been for a couple of years...They push parents away from helping out..even if it means that they won't have enough help to coach the kids and man the concessions..etc...and then wonder why they can't get any help....it's my experience that there are very few parents that are willing to help...when you have people who are willing and not causing any harm to the kids...appreciate them...thank them any time you can...don't run them off...that is what keeps little league programs together...if you don't appreciate the people that work their tails off for you..you might as well discontinue the league...the kids won't be learning...won't be having fun...won't want to play next year...all because their aren't enough people to help out...Successful programs have total support from the board and parents...

Supersiders,
Easy, I was just trying to point out things that could help out the BASKETBALL programs @ West. I was not trying tom slam anyone. I again was just saying that there is no since in playing in All Star Tournaments if kids aren't taught how to break a press. You have to set up a way to break a 1-2-2 press, man to man, 2-1-2, etc...
Would you send your kid into the woods with a shotgun hunting bears if he/she had never shot a gun before??? This is what it looks like in these tournaments. It is not just me that sees this but every person sitting and watching it!!!
By the way, I have coached- many years of coaching!!! Let me ask you this, if you don't know anything about soccer or hockey would you coach it??? I hope the answer is No!!!! If you don't know what you are coaching then let someone who does!!!!

This a very good point, the only problem is it's yourself and those sitting around and watching that should be spending the time on COACHING the team this instead of coaching from the stands!!! The same goes for the officials for these pee wee games for the most part they do a poor job, but I don't see volunteers lined up at the door wanting to spend their Saturday doing the officiating.

The more some people write the more you figure out that they don't have a clue.

Re: WAKE UP WESTSIDE!
Kids also want to have to get better, alot of kids, I have coached some from the West side in AAU, that want to get better. Now days you can go to BetterBasketball.com and many other websites to help get ways to have your kid improve. Alot of parents put it all on the coaches, and there are alot of volunteers that mean well, but can't coach that sport. I agree, I didn't play baseball, I don't coach softball or soccer for that matter. But if you know the game it doesnt matter. You can still arm yourself with information to better your players skill level. Alot of people don't like to coach little kids with all the skill drills, it is hectic, but kids, especially younger ones love to learn it all. I tell them you don't have to master it, but when you are shooting alone, work on it, that is where true players are made. But some of parents, don't tell their kids they need to work at it, they just expect that showing up twice a week for practice is enough and it isn't. My daughter didn't like soccer, she didn't practice, when she complained about playing time, I told her you need to practice at it, she didn't and moved to a sport that she enjoys. She practices those she likes, like all kids do. Parents need to encourge their kids to practice at the things they like, and not expect it all to fall on the coaches for the two days and then get upset cause the lack of playing time. Once kids get to the 5th and 6th grade level they need to start realizing they have to earn their playing time, they need to develop the work ethic to practice to get better.
