Re: Jr. High football week one:
What was NW doing against Valley. Running up the score to make up for all their losses at the high school level? 60-0 really!! Do they not have a second or third string? What about trying some players at positions they usually don"t get a chance to play.

Re: Jr. High football week one:
You couldn't be more wrong!!! As a matter of fact I've played in tank stadium and won in tank stadium and it wasn't a down year for your mighty tigers! And if Ironton doesn't care about being in a conference why were they just in the SEOAL a couple years ago and every off season all you read on here is why wont anyone let us in their conference. It don't matter if it is the SOC or the OVC they want in.IBTT wrote:It sounds as though you must be a pirate fan who is hoping to see what most haven't witnessed in a victory at the historic Tanks Stadium against the mighty tigers..see even in our down years its like winning the superbowl by beating Ironton in even Burgs better years. So OVC/SOC really I'm sure it isn't that big of a deal if the Ovc allows or don't allow them in. Especially in middle school. This is just an easier way to schedule games seeing that Ironton is in the middle of the Ovc schools..it makes sense..travel wise and cost wise. Once Ironton gets to high school they couldn't afford to be in the Ovc...if you lose a game you are out of the playoffs. Even if you win, you haven't played anyone so you aren't ready for the big boys. Good luck to both teams on a safe game. Good luck to a great start to another season of southern Ohio football!noles_fan wrote:You missed the point of what they were saying. Evidently Ironton middle school cares about being in the MSOVC since it sounds like the applied to join. And why bring up the high schools scheduling practices on a middle school thread. Try the high school thread the burg fans have been lighting up the Ironton fans they may need your help. I just hope the mysterious flu bug doesn't strike again this year when you head down our way.Sports2you wrote:REALLY!!!!!!! IF YOU PLAY AT IRONT0N IT WILL BE ON THE MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY ON THE TANK SO BAD THEN TRANSFER TO IRONTON.
THEY WILL ALLOW YOU TO PLAY ON IT WHEN YOU GET TO HIGH SCHOOL. AS FAR AS JOINING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OVC YOU ALL MAKE IT OUT TO BE A BIG DEAL. WE REALLY DONT CARE ABOUT BEING IN THE OVC WE HAVE BEEN INDEPENDANT FOR SO LONG ANYWAYS. AT IRONTON THEY DO NOT PLAY FOR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
THEY HAVE LONGER SEASON GOALS. IF NO ONE HAS NOTICED YET THE HIGH SCHOOL PLAYS FOR A 6-4 SEASON EVERY YEAR MEANING THEY SCHEDULE BIGGER SCHOOLS THAT THEY NO THEY CAN BEAT EVERYYEAR WICH GIVES THEM A HIGHER POINT TOTAL AND THE OTHER 4 ARE USUALLY SCHOOLS THAT ARE LARGER AND TOUGHER COMP
AND IS A PLUS WHEN THEY BEAT THEM AND PREPARE FOR COMP FOR PLAYOFFS WITH OUR SCHEDULE 6-4 PUTS US IN THE PLAYOFFS. THAT IS WHY IRONTON DOES NOT CARE IF THEY ARE IN THE OVC. YOU MAY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS BY GOING 8-2 IN THE OVC AND GAIN NOTHING BY IT.AS FAR AS THE JUNIOR HIGH FIELD THE SURFACE IS BETTER THAN THE TANK BY FAR AND THAT IS WHAT ARE KIDS CALL THERE HOME FIELD AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE OPORTUNITY TO PLAYING ON THE THE HISTORICAL TANK STADIUM NEXT SEASON.

Northwest lose 60-0 and all you hear is crickets, they win 60-0 and their running the score up, funny. How many years, in all sports, has the score been ram up on them? Pretty often I'd say.pnoles_fan wrote:They only have 18 kids for 2 teams.Nothing But Net 1 wrote:What was NW doing against Valley. Re: Jr. High football week one:
No, I don't feel they ran up the score. I believe everyone of their running backs scored. You can't tell the kids to stop running or blocking. End of third and fourth quarter the defense was their younger kids for most part. The score could have been worse if they pressed the issue. On offense, NW didn't get chance to work on much because they scored so fast. I wonder what would have been said if it was NW on the losing end of that score.Nothing But Net 1 wrote:What was NW doing against Valley. Man wasn't valley down last year also? You can survive one bad class but not two or three. Valley better enjoy this year as hard times may be a head.

Valley may have 1 or 2 wins over West at the Jr. High level in the last 15 years. Yet West has 1 win over Valley at the varsity level in the last 6 seasons. If Junior high had anything to do with Varsity success, we wouldn't be talking about Northwest heading to SOC I.
Re: Jr. High football week one:
Success is success, no matter the level. Guarantee if Valley had won 60-0 you and every other Valley supporter would be on here saying, "typical Northwest'.Crab's brother wrote:Westfan wrote:Man wasn't valley down last year also? Re: Jr. High football week one:
Valley High takes a knee at the 1 against Portsmouth tonight on last drive. Burg up 49-6 against Ironton at half. Final 49-12. Just 2 examples of good sportsmanship. Still find it hard to believe 60-0 isnt running up the score no matter who the schools involved were. No i wasnt at the game and understand NW utilized several backs. I also understand Valley doesnt have enough 8th graders so several 7th have to play up. How many NW 7th graders were playing the skilled positions after the game got out of hand? If NW backs are to big and strong how much did they work on their passing game? No passing touchdowns were mentioned.
Re: Jr. High football week one:
Im not defending anyone here. But if you are blowing a team out it doesnt matter how bad your passing game is if you throw the ball late in the game with a big lead you would look bad. Neither team has enough to field two teams so they were both playing 7th and 8th graders. I didnt see the game so I dont know what plays were being called but unless they were running sweeps and reverses or trick plays there is nothing wrong with it. You cant tell your team to not play hard. And taking a knee my sound like good sportsmanship but there is nothing more humiliating! It is saying you have no chance of stopping us so we will just quit trying.Nothing But Net 1 wrote:Valley High takes a knee at the 1 against Portsmouth tonight on last drive. No Slew....we will wait until high school to say typical Northwest. I agree that success is success, but here is a link from the end of the Jr. High football season in 2008 (Last year's seniors). Valley's record isn't in there but they finished 1-6. As you can see, the Mohawks were 6-1 along with Burg and West. Also see where Coal Grove was 7-0. Valley played 5 games against those 4 teams last season (including Coal Grove twice) and the combined score in those games was 163-53.Slew72 wrote:Success is success, no matter the level. "Taking a knee may sound like good sportsmanship" because.........it is good sportsmanship! Running the score up in any sport is not justified. I thought everyone had figured that out by now!

What would an appropriate score be to start taking a knee?toast wrote:"Taking a knee may sound like good sportsmanship" because.........it is good sportsmanship! Running the score up in any sport is not justified. I thought everyone had figured that out by now!
Re: Jr. High football week one:
Taking a knee sounds like a good idea, but unless you have been in that situation you have no idea. It is a slap in the face to have a team just kneel on the ball. The look on the kids face is disheartening. You don't expect your team to give up when you are down, just so you can get the game over. I would rather lose 100-0 than to set and watch a team set on the ball.toast wrote:"Taking a knee may sound like good sportsmanship" because.........it is good sportsmanship! Absolutly 100% slap in the face would be humiliating. We will probably have this same thing to talk about in week 2. Valley plays West 8th grade this week at Valley I think.noles_fan wrote:Taking a knee sounds like a good idea, but unless you have been in that situation you have no idea.
